Nothing really of value in this. Here's an approach that can actually be applied. If you have more jobs available than you have time to work on them (whether you're full-time or part-time) then charge more per job.

I use a small stool, it makes getting the floating feet easier and you capture more height between the ground and the feet, and since I’m quite tall I’m not looking down on the small runners.. using 6 or more FSP means the majority of time I’m getting floating feet (but more editing)

Ben, I love your suggestions and natural style. Now, a criticism - throughout the video, I could hear your lens and camera refocusing constantly. I have the same problem with some of my noisier lenses when I'm shooting videos, so I feel your pain. I end up moving the mic away from the camera to avoid picking up that sound. This is an older video, so I'm guessing you've corrected the problem by now.

Hey Ben, good tips. I shoot road races for a race promoter. Their idea of a good photo is similar - head up, looking strong, preferably making it appear that the runner is enjoying themselves. I do agree with a previous comment that I wish you would have shown the photos side by side. Each was shown so briefly and I was trying to remember what the previous one looked like.

I always shoot commercial work in Raw as it gives me more data in post to work with should I need it. Sports when shot correctly, with a locked white balance and a good understanding of exposure can be easily shot in jpeg

In a nut shell, when your work is up high, quality wise, 'they' will knock! Agree on all aspects, we will get through this is a matter of perseverance too! Got this concept from a friend and never forgot, which is 'smart living', got to think and draw a strategy. Taking the advantage of what we are going through will enable us to get back well prepared and organised ... as it will 'boom', the question is when. Stay positive - thank you Ben! Understand that feeling of being forgotten ...however, and as an example (please correct if I'm wrong), when you publish a video is a Must see, as per other options would be just throwing content! Almost one year ago, when I crossed over your channel, the first thing that made me stick to it, was (is!) your honest approach. Say when you have to say it, because we know the quality content is there! Cheers

I like your honest opinion 👍🏽 I shoot mostly wildlife and I only shoot jpeg. I feel it makes me a better photographer, I always try to capture the best possible photo that doesn’t require editing. The idea of editing bothers me somewhat.... I feel my skill as a photographer comes from not having to use pro editing tools to make my photos look better🤷🏽♂️ But hey, everyone can do what works for them. I have seen some wildlife work that was edited using pro editing tools and was not impressed.... maybe they overdid it, just didn’t look natural....

I can't speak for anybody else, but I make a living shooting youth sports tournaments (mostly girls volleyball and dance competitions). Here is how I do it: ...Sell onsite! (You will need to have at least 1 employee and 3 laptops with monitors) ...Do not edit (The time invested in that isn't worth it) ...Only shoot girls' sports (My sales come from the kids being interested in our photos and hanging out at our viewing stations. Girls will do this, but boys couldn't care less) ...Do NOT spray and pray (The kids and parents get bored with multiple shots of the same play. And as I said earlier about no editing, we do not even vet our photos, meaning that all the images we take are on the viewing station) ...Do not sell online (If you tell parents they have the option of buying later, they will not buy them now, and will likely forget/talk themselves out of buying later. It is the impulse buy you are aiming for) ...Have a good rapport with tournament directors (I pay a vendor fee to be the official shooter of an event) ...Have a sales goal (I give my sales staff an incentive to sell by offering a commission when the sales goal is reached. Most of my salespeople have been college kids, and you need to give them a reason to actively try to sell, and not to just sit there and play on their phones) ...Do not offer prints (For me, that ship sailed around 2007. We went from prints, to photos on CD, to flash drive, to uploading to phones. Kids and parents want pics for social media these days, not an album, or a walled framed shot) ...Photos need to be "good enough" (Pics need to be in focus and have a ball in frame or a good expression of the kid. They DON'T need to be magazine quality. So many people I've hired are so fixated on not showing shots that they think are subpar. This is subjective of course, because I don't want garbage shots. But parents and kids are a lot less picky than what photographers are) So, here is an associate explaining our sales method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5apo4N_i9hoeJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6fUpIGqZp6XiKM And here is an example or two of albums that sold as a team package: www.flickr.com/photos/sjhfoto/albums/72157713352809462 www.flickr.com/photos/sjhfoto/albums/72157713085372798

If you shoot in RAW or JPEG, the finished product is probably a JPEG. The software/hardware built into your camera may do a better job of producing a good JPEG than you can on some editing program, especially when you have to shoot in low light. Looks at the suggestions from Zamani Feelings: spark.adobe.com/page/2xTu2b7dl16Az/?w=1_9154&fbclid=IwAR2G63bxSneg-MAA8rs27zYrYEyEOcylRF7kMezR_pJ81SsptIWKjLIfFrI

Top review Ben. I have used a x1.4 for many years before getting a 400 f2.8 and had some decent shots but can’t believe the quality difference I now get with the prime. The loss of f stop with the extender is a problem at times in low light but would certainly hang onto it. Interested to try it on the 400 on a sunny day at the cricket where f4 will be just fine

@@BenLumleyphoto I have had 300 f4 for a while and was keen to upgrade to a 2.8 at the beginning of the year but put it on hold when the virus hit and sport was on hold. I saw a 2nd hand 400 2.8 at the end of the cricket season and bit the bullet. Only disappointment was I didn’t get it in time for any cricket but am slowly getting used to it at the football. Have also traded in my 7Dii and am using it on an R6 with some encouraging results. Also added advantage of a weights work out 🏋️♂️ every game, as you say the back may see it different but I like the idea of sticking on my tripod on the boundary edge for the cricket. Hope you well and keeping busy. Take care

@@BenLumleyphoto Some of my clients have commercial contracts with different sports leagues, which means they are able to sell for advertising needs.
