Thank you for your honesty on this one Rob. Genuinely sorry to hear what you have been through, but great to see that you have found happiness again, and are back on track. I have my own experience with mental health, for me (Pete) it is depression and anxiety. I've tried loads of medications, but none have been the right fit. It can be a daily battle, and i can have some very dark moods. For me, the only thing that helps is getting out into nature, so your wise words about us not being meant to live in a box, really struck a chord with me. Shell is my rock, and honestly the reason i get out of bed every day. Generally, i put on a mask and don't share a lot, but felt your honesty and candidness in this video deserved mine in return👍. Keep fighting the good fight mate, and thanks for making this. Pete 👊

Yo I totally get it, I struggle with mental health daily. I always feel guilty whenever I get outside exploring on my own and practicing what our ancestors did, like society wants us to work eat sleep shit and do this til we die. I also believe the term youre talking about is Zoocosis that animals experience inside zoos

Making videos in the Eden project now 😂 Bloody beautiful spot that mate. I'm surprised there was no one around. It is the truth, mate. That's how we should be living and why the world's a depressed hate hole. I'm glad you met Jodie. You deserve to be happy 👍 Love that foraging diary, although I haven't got the patience to fill one in myself. I'm glad you're uploading more often too. And when are we getting out for a camp again? It's been too long ❤ I'm off up to the Lake District this weekend. 👊 It's great that you can open up about your mental health. I was diagnosed with a dopamine deficiency back in January. Which means my brain can't make enough of the happy chemical. So I no longer have the ability to regulate pleasure. I just cant be happy about anything, don't look forward to things anymore, and very rarely can I crack a true unforced smile. It's hard mate. I'm always just a phone call away 👍 ❤

I always advice novice foragers to go careful and never pick or eat anything they aren't 100% sure on. This is just highlighting that even the most Deadly Poisonous are safe to touch and handle. 👍

Ps. Why not try doing a ' rock to point' video or a rock to biface. You could knapp out some quarry blanks or preforms. As a tip for quarry spalling...a big copper hammer(thor hammer) and a few heavy billets of aluminium and you can peel some whopping spalls from a core....it really helps when trying to produce larger pieces/blades. You can then work the spall up to the cortex to get at that film of high grade. It's so much easier.
@storbunlimitedbushcraft699611 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. I have a video coming out soon on spalling to point dropping soon! Yeah, I tend to use antler and stone only. I'll leave the aluminium and copper to the obsidian slab knappers 😉
@storbunlimitedbushcraft699611 күн бұрын
I used to work a lot with copper, I do like it.. don't get me wrong my work with copper is way better than with stone and bone. But isn't it going to be, I mean modern metal tools are going to be far superior than bone and stone. I want to stick to as traditional as possible and see how I can improve using these methods. Yes, copper was around in the neolithic. But would they have used copper boppers and copper pressure flakers for flintknapping I doubt it. Would have been too high value. I really wanna try and better my techniques with a stone age tool range! Appreciate your tips and appreciate you watching buddy. 🤙🏽
@scottlaugher-flintknapping10 күн бұрын
@@storbunlimitedbushcraft6996 Cool...I learned to chip with antler and stone and then included copper and aluminium as I got old for the ease of it. Plus I'm not bothered what it's made with these days...I use all sorts of crap. It's not important to me as long as I get the piece I want at the end and it's refined to my liking. Fairly sure the Hunter gatherers would've used what worked best😄 If you fancy a nice flint knife blade knapped with sh*tty copper... I'll send you one free. I've honestly never hafted anything I've knapped. You obviously love all that sh*t 😄 It could make for a good vid for your channel...you can just tell people it was knapped with unicorn horn or whatever to keep it real😄 thanks for the reply bud.

Usually there's a strip of high grade material directly under the cortex,a band of really nice honey coloured material. This is the nicest to knapp. When ever i go to a big chalk face i take a big heavy copper hammer and spall off from the main core. Flint in a nodule tends to get worse as you work towards the centre with our English materials. The honey material is really top class(other knappers love it) and can produce stunning translucent blades/points. Some of the ' concrete' can be worked through but can be a massive pain in the arse on a delicate piece. That material looks very grainy...almost like the field flint im knapping at the moment. It's nice but getting the ' right' material is as much of a mission as learning to knapp. You can make do...but when you find higrade you'll know it as the pieces make themselves... almost. We don't have all those beautiful flawless materials the yanks have(very jealous) but we do have material that is extremely strong,hard and flexible. Our flint is beautiful!! I'm currently trying to find some nice material for Pat blanc(jack crafty) there's another top knapper i know in Scotland. We've been swapping materials...my top grade English for his top grade Arran pitchstone(obsidian). Check his work and that beautiful stone on KZbin.....'captain flint.' a really excellent young knapper turning out great work from Scottish obsidian and my Henley on thames flint .. really cool !! At some point im going to do a video on flint and what i look for. Keep up the good work ...great video👍

Making nice flint blades is beyond tricky with our flint. Finding the right rock is as much a journey as the knapping itself. I'm from Reading bud and if ever you want any help with your knapping experience then give me a shout. I've 30+ yrs experience and can knap some cool sh*t😂 There's only a few knappers in the uk that are any good....i mean really good....and i'm definitely one of them😂. We UK knappers need to spread the skills we have.... there's so few of us even trying to learn. I did a few shorts on YT some time back of points and blades. It's awesome to see the knife you made....great vid. Subscribed.

Belter video this mate and hope to do something like this myself in the future but I remember u saying that u need a gun license and stuff and right time of year for hunting well why don’t u use a sling shot, yess it’s not primitive but in the uk it’s probs the closest we will ever get to it plus u don’t need a license, can carry it around with u and catch and cook pigeons, squirrels, ducks just the lot but also be handy if u done abit of foraging as well as I think the natural diet would be 70-80% plants and the rest would be meat as the energy u would need to hunt but as I said before great video bud 👍🏻
