Oh my goodness. This song makes my eyes leak! The lyrics are tender, loving and sincere. However, the voice of Mario is tired, strained and that of an ill man. This only adds to the beauty of the recording. I was going through a relationship break-up when I first heard this (around 1995) version. This is one of my favourite tracks from his 1959 VK album and one of the loveliest songs he's sung (in my opnion). Sadly, it's another of those "missed opportunities" by Mario and I'd have LOVED to have heard an early 1950s version of this great soundtrack. Crying now, but thankful for your post, my friend. Another one of those songs that I'd play to non-Lanza fans to hear how fabulous he sang. Beautiful ballad, PERFECTLY sung by Mario. He's in absolute control of this and nails it at the last "stop". Then he lets rip with the finish with the word "under" with that glorious bell-like quality that I've never heard from any other singer. Perfection. Wonderful video too, as always. A dancy tune to favorite scenes from Serenade, what a treat for us to hear "the Voice!!" Luv Mario's pop song. So much of Serenade seems biographical to what Mario went through back then. His not being "allowed" to sing anywhere, must have been torture as this film shows the struggle to regain his ability to sing. He put his heart/soul into that film.

Outstanding. The Coca Cola show produced some absolute gems and this is one of them, in my opinion. He had that amazing ability of making the song sound like it was written just for him and he sings it like it was made for every individual listener. Beautiful recording, often makes me cry. Thank you for posting this, I appreciate being able to listen to this so many years after the film was made. I watched this film at the picture theatre in Malvern when I was 15 years old and loved it, I had tears streaming down my face. It was a beautiful film which I watched because of the voice of Mario Lanza. For me, he was the greatest tenor and I always compare tenors of today to him.
