Bryan Singer showed a real affection and reverence for the Christopher Reeve era in this film. I imagine this is what he wished had been Superman III

Superman Returns still has the best cape physics, sound design for the flying and cape flapping along with the scores to this day, nothing tops it since imo. You look at the Superman that comes after this and the capes are just flapping by breeze and the flying physics looks ass, nothing compared to Returns.

Christopher Reeves Superman was perfection. As time goes by when we see new versions of Superman we appreciate more how good Christopher Reeve was and the cast back then, including Brando. It was a different era in a different time. The problem with new versions of Superman they tried to mimic Christopher Reeves style, including Clark Kent. It never worked because they are not Christopher Reeve. Christopher Reeve never copied George Reeves before him but they both share similarities in terms of fate, George Reeves died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 45 and Christopher Reeve was paralysed from spinal cord injury from an accident. That being said, when we compare two of the greatest Batman’s of all time, Michael Keaton and Christian Bale, both their films and their trilogies were very different but we’re still Batman. If we are to see a new Superman, it is important it is entirely original and doesn’t set out to copy and paste from the past. But that doesn’t mean making Superman with a dark streak like Batman is because that’s not how I see Superman. Although, like anybody he has his moments when he loses track of his purpose and falls into darkness, but his will and sense of justice brings him back to the light.

When I watched this as an 8 year old, I learned the value of selflessness and priorities. My Mom said "he knows she's out there but he knows he has to save the city first. He can't his love for her get in the way of what's right." That sticks with me to this day.

This is my second favourite change ever, after Christopher Reeve's first revolving door scene. You don't normally see the discarded Clark Kent clothes falling away.

Brandon Routh must be credited for reviving our beloved superhero. Henry Cavill didn't do it for me, his persona as Clark Kent was too serious

I always wonder what would happen if you’re the person using the elevator next and you see clothes all over the floor and a big large hole on the ceiling. Wouldn’t you wanna be looking at the surveillance? If you do, you’ll probably see one of your coworkers name, Clark Kent, literally go flying after he took off his glasses.. you’ll be probably guessing that your coworker is actually superman in disguise

This is one of the most underrated superhero films ever, it’s got some technical problems when you think hard on them but they don’t break the film for me. The reason most people hate it is likely because it came out 1 year after Batman Begins so people were expecting it to reinvigorate the property as Batman Begins for Batman but it didn’t largely because this film is more of an homage to the Christopher Reeve films rather than a new take on the character.

I remember the time when i watched this scene on cinema, i get mad chills when the music build up kicks in whenever he's about to go superman and lost it when he flies after the elevator closes. It like what Christopher Reeve did back in the day was one again recreated in a modern era. And the whole mall is blasting that superman theme over and over again and never fails me to get hype.
