The siren are inclement weather. Palm Beach had them as well. It is dangerous storm or all clear. Jennifer knows the sounds better with my tinnitus I normally can't hear it or let's just say I'm at work.
@sandyfisher66946 сағат бұрын
Wish we had known you were stopping in our area, we would have been happy to help you with your logistics. Those sirens were a test for the nuclear power plant on Hutchinson Island. It was just a test. Weather window for the Bahamas…do not cross if there is a N in the wind forecast. Not NE, NNE, N, NW etc. No N! Any wind going against the Gulf Stream causes marching elephants. You don’t want to cross the path of marching elephants. Stay safe, sail on!

If you come to New Zealand, that sound (from the test) is the sound used to called volunteer firefighters. Freaks people out the first time they hear it.

I think that diesel bug is caused by warm weather and a low fuel level in your tanks. You could have it in your breather line.

There is a product called Teak-Bright that West Marine sells in a powered plastic container that cleans gel coat really well. The name of it makes you think that it's just for teak but I've been using it for years on gel coat. It will make your white deck perfectly white again. Mix with water and sponge it on. Leave for thirty minutes or so and then wash off.

I love the longer video. Looks like you had a lot to share this week with many projects. When you reef your main sail, you need to move the line that attaches to the boom that is connecting to the clue of your sail forward. You want to keep the clue tight to the boom. You also want to wash all of your food and cans with vinegar. Some cruisers also remove the labels off of the cans. Did you own a home before purchasing this boat? As for me, I've been watching sailing videos for something like seven years now and haven't pulled the plug on land life yet. I've got a half finished home that I've been building on the nights and weekends after my day job with a percentage of my pay check. I'm debt free on it as well as everything else in my life. I've got enough money to purchase my dream boat but not enough to live the lifestyle till I finish my home and sell it. It's a grind and I can't wait till I'm out on the water again. I'm still stuck in the rat race.

Next time you make it to Cumberland Island, pony up for the Legacy Tour - it’s well worth it. You get the entire history of the island and the Carneige Family. You only saw a small portion of the island this time. Plumb mansion is at the other end. Safe travels and use the life jackets while at sea and definitely on night passages - hopefully you have harnesses as well. One rouge wave is all it takes.

I really like the longer videos that you produce as long as the content is captivating like it is. I'd really like to see you sail around Cape Horn rather than going through the Panama Canal like everyone else does. That way we can see what South America is all about. What was that little bug at the end of the video?
@SaltySunriseSailingКүн бұрын
Cape horn would be so cool, something we have definitely talked about. That was a teeny tiny crab actually.

You would have been more balanced if you had kept 2nd or 3rd reef, 30 knots with that a sea state you would have been fine,

Just a piece of advice: when it's choppy, better bring the door down. Otherwise its handle will knock the coachroof and might leave some nasty cracks there. Learnt it the hard way on our 1260.
