I wrote to the BFI last year asking them to re-release this film. I probably didn’t impact their decision but I’m going to pretend I’m the reason this happened 😎

Just watched it. Beautifully shot. Lovely music. A time capsule of early 60s London. Sadly the story didn’t grip me.The murder came out of nowhere and seemed out of place. The comedy was poor and I didn’t find Bates convincing here. Shame because technically I loved it.

im just about feature Peeping Tom on my channel as Criterion are about to release the same restoration in the US - interesting that the media response for this in the UK caused Hitchcock to stop press from seeing it ahead of its release. Studiocanal continue to fly the flag with classic UK films.

Moore’s best non-Bond films are “The Wild Geese” and “The Sea Wolves,” both made by the same team: producer Euan Lloyd, writer Reginald Rose, and director Andrew V McLaglen. Solidly written and well-acted. Let’s not forget the 1976 TV film, “Sherlock Holmes in New York,” starring Moore and Patrick Macnee. Moore’s own favourite was “The Man Who Haunted Himself.”

James Franciscus. The discount knock off miniature version of Charlton Heston. Too bad he lit himself up. With smoking. He foreshortened his life and died from emphysema.
@huntercoleman4604 ай бұрын
He did quit acting around 1985 a couple years before he got diagnosed with emphysema.
@dsolosan6 ай бұрын
I mainly know Franciscus from his work in Beneath the Planet of the Apes and the Valley of Gwangi, which led me to his TV show, Longstreet. As far as top 5 lists go, I would have to go with When Time Ran Out, Hell Boats, Marooned, Beneath POTA, and Gwangi. Gwangi is by far the best of them in terms of roles for Franciscus. It's truly a lead role, with his character driving the story forward. The main downside of the picture is that it borrows too heavily from the tropes of lost world stories, like King Kong (which borrowed heavily from The Lost World)...
@4kfellowship6 ай бұрын
Thanks for giving your top 5. I love Gwangi, it's my favourite Harryhausen, and I prefer the hidden valley idea to the whole lost world thing - kind of works in an Old West setting.

@@4kfellowship For favorite Harryhausen, I'd have to go with 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Love the story and the creatures ... the cyclops being one of my favorites.

Yeh, i know what you mean by getting Franciso and Franciscus mixed up. That would be especially in the movie Fathom where Franciosa has blond hair. What?. you missed out at least 3 other actors who got an an academy award, Before, Red Buttons, and Willian Holden, and after Paul Newman. Burgess Meredith was nominated twice, but didn't win.

--- WELL DONE! . . . My favourite films with James Franciscus are "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" (1969) and "Marooned" (1969) portraying intelligent men under duress, and so makes the drama happen for the spectator to have a good time at the movies.

Hello, does the booklet mention anything about "Fidelity in Motion" or "David Mackenzie" regarding the encoding or authoring? Thanks
@4kfellowship7 ай бұрын
Afraid not. This is all the information about the restoration in the booklet: Restored using the original 35mm Eastman color negative, optical track negative, and track positive print. 4K scanning: Silver Salt Restoration Limited, London Picture restoration: Cineric, Inc., New York Color grading: Daniel DeVincent, Cineric, Inc., New York So basically, it was scanned in the UK and restored in the US. There's a whole featurette about this on the disc, but I didn't mention it because I was still coming to terms with the 4K scan and they didn't acknowledge that anyone might have mixed feelings about it. By the way, the booklet can a couple of thoughtful, well-researched essays and some nice stills. I get the feeling I probably ought to do a second video that covers some of this stuff!
