I know this doesn't have much to do with the video.. but when you were eating,, you have veggies you had started I think from other veggies,, I saw when you planted the onion,, but,,I tried celery several times..and I only get little stump about 3-4 inches then it stats dying on me.. I'm wondering if you had a secret growth hormone you use to start your veggies or is it just water?

@shesablue4243 The vegetables standing on my table are just some I've bought. The stalk selleri i just put in a glass with water, and they live on until I can plant them during spring, the same with the parsley and timian. I don't use anything for my veggies, just water.

You mentioned one time,, "forest cats where they belong".. she sure belongs there.. I look for her every week. Beautiful log! I’ve told this story I read many times over the years. A guy was using a wire wheel and a wire hit him in the eye. He ran to the bathroom, held is eye open and pulled the wire out. With it came the lens. Ouch! Talk about adding insult to injury. I’m realizing I missed last weeks vlog, so on to that one. Thanks Michael ( looks like the snow has gone some )

@terryatpi Over the years, I've learned that your eyes are everything to a beautiful life. A piece of wood or stone has gotten in there, but luckily, never a piece of wire. That most have been terrible. Yes, the snow melted away in four days when a warm front hit us. It's a strange winter this year, more green and rain than snow and frost. All the best Michael

That was a very difficult tree to move! Almost landed on your ankle in the shed. Our heaviest, hardest Canadian tree is ironwood. Do these grow in Sweden? Also hickory, maple and oak. No snow? We have about 10” staying on the ground, hard and icy, barely enough for xcountry skiing.

I don't have pretty wood like that, that splits so clean. This January cold snap is sucking up my wood supply fast. 1/2 Cord already burned. Still sucking up the black flies & now nymphs too I see. Chinese Asin ladybugs are a real pest here in the Illinois cornfields. Brought in 20+ years ago to combat leaf aphids. Late fall the swarms can be Prodigious! Any little crack or crevice they can find to get in! I can relate on the treats for Hise and Smilia. I brought in 2 kittens this fall that were born in early October. So Now I have 8 cats inside. Have never had outside kittens born that late in the year since I bought the place 28 years ago. Local Animal Shelter is full of abandoned cats right now too!

@JosEPh-zy3yr Birchwood split so easy, pine... sometimes easy, but spruce is near impossible unless it's cut in really short length because of all the branches. But I've been chopping since the teenage years, so I know where to chop, so it's a lot easier to avoid the branches. Cats can be in heat every 4-6 weeks, so it's a good idea to sterilize them, but congrats on the new family members. All the best "cat man" 🤭 Michael

Mashing that was interesting to me. I make things more like a soup as I like chunky soups. But they could get mashed. I'll try it next time. I just made a "clean out the fridge spaghetti sauce" two nights ago. What was left got kidney beans and chili powder, extra onions and chopped celery to make a nice Chili con carne. So tasty.
@livefree-ordietrying
@livefree-ordietrying 7 күн бұрын
@quarlow1215 I'm also crazy about chunky, one pot soups/stews. Try this one next time. Let it simmer for 45 min. and don't be too eager on the potatoes, so the mash stays a bit chunky. You can also add some garlic and timian to your mash and then fry it. That's really good with a steak. That leftover chili con carne sounds delicious. I'll try that next time I make some minced meat. All the best, and keep those pots and pans hot. Michael

Yum…those mash recipes are also popular in the NL….at least when I lived there which is decades ago. However, I still make it during the Canadian winter but…you must add some sauerkraut! Another version is potatoes, carrots and onions (with meatballs) and a third one is potatoes and kale (must have a sausage with that one). It’s called stampot. You grow up straight and tall on those mixtures. 😉

Howdy Michael- the wood on the gables is beautiful! I love the live edge for batten strips. I got started doing that a few years ago from my friend who is a log cabin builder in Estonia. Live edge on anything has become more popular here. People pay big money for live edge slabs for different projects. That food looks delicious. Our snow is pretty much gone now. We couldn’t get out for a few days. I was getting cabin fever lol. Now we have a bitter cold front coming in. Take care my friend. God bless

@TheBeardedCarpenter Hi Paul. I've always loved live edges because of the organic look. It's a strange winter here. One week minus 10-15, the next week plus 5-8. There's something wrong with the climate. Last week minus 12-18, and a blizzard, yesterday plus 8 Celsius. I'm thinking of buying a fresh load of logs so I can start making some garden benches and tables, and maybe shelters to sell. All the best, my friend Michael
