You know I recently was viewing viewing a reddit thread which was claiming Chomsky is a genocide denier and examples were Cambodia and Russia (2020). Listening to this Chomsky destroys both some 40 years back.

Noam Chomsky seems to have a we vs them approach when it comes to the Zeitgeist of the last few centuries but humans have been living in oppressive structures for millennia. Any form of human organisation has been oppressive or even if it might have been equalitarian at some point it lead to an oppressive dictatorial system the more complex societies had become, which begs the question . . WHY?

Chomsky mentions both good and bad propaganda... The 'good' kind, as in education or business, is still a sort of brainwashing. He's so brilliantly fast here that I need to read his books just to catch up with myself. Fantastic mind!

More people need to review this as over 35 years later everything Chomsky talks about is still relevant to the Palestinian crisis. Particularly important is his explanation of rejectionism.

Saddam Hussain was Washington's poster boy years ago, the Iraqi people had a revolution in 1958 and they kicked out the British and American oil companies and they built a democratic country, every time time they talk about we got to go in there and teach the Iraqi's democracy there's the lie of omission they forget they had a democracy they forget they had a constitutional government, a prime minister. Saddam Hussain first gig with the CIA was to shoot the prime minister' which he did he didn't kill him he just wounded him and CIA got him out and brought him to Syria he later on worked his way in he killed or he drove into exile or he drove underground every constitutionalist every progressive every reformer every democrat every communist in the country who had formed this coalition he even then killed slaughtered and murdered the whole left wing of his own Baathist party, this is the part they never tell you about Saddam Hussain and while he was doing that he was Washington's poster boy they loved him they gave him aid they gave him a good chunk of the oil market they signed him onto Iran to go fight a proxy war for them against Iran's own revolution because the US lost control of Iran's oil after the Iranian revolution he was their everything but then he started committing economic nationalism he kept the economy state owned he trained a cadres of engineer he did not turn Iraq into a free market client state he did not open it up to global international investment he did no say come on in boys its all yours the land the labor the oil the resources he did not say just give me and my brother some money and we will keep the people in line for you... and that is when they turned against Saddam. Could not have said it any better. If only people knew about the actual context of the whole situation about Iraq I do not think for a second the American public would have ever supported the invasion of the sovereign country of Iraq ! People are quick to forget, they are not interested in politics enough and the ramification and consequences of the disastrous US foreign policy and its effects on the population of other countries.. it is never about bringing democracy and helping the people or for humanitarian reasons like they tell the masses when they go to war but always about the interests of a few at the top controlling things from the shadows. Those in the shadows who exercise and hold true power and influence world events on a scale few could even understand. Iraq, despite all of its problems, was a danger of a bad example for the middle east, the danger of a good example and they had to get rid of this problem by destroying its government and society. Now it backfired on them after they installed a Shia Muslim dominated government who aligned itself with Shia Iran. A 5 year old could of seen that coming but not those in control of the US foreign policy ? It seems to me that people never think about thinking a little more. That would be very dangerous for the establishment tough !

00:00 🎙 Perception involves selecting, omitting, and organizing data, introducing distortions. 05:08 🌐 Objectivity is often influenced by dominant paradigms, which may be biased and lack true objectivity. 07:15 🤔 Dissenting opinions, although challenged, are often more reliable than mainstream views due to continuous testing against evidence. 09:05 🙅‍♂ Beliefs can be impervious to evidence, and people often resort to fallback positions when confronted with contradictory information. 23:35 🇷🇺 Many Russians regret the demise of the Soviet Union and believe life was better under communism, challenging mainstream narratives. 27:41 🇷🇸 Serbia is the only former Yugoslav republic that remains multi-ethnic, debunking the ethnic cleansing narrative. 28:40 🌍 Empires are often built on the expropriation of resources, labor, and capital from other countries. 36:24 🏛 Empires are not accidental or unintentional; they are purpose-driven and require conscious effort to mobilize resources for conquest and plunder. 45:03 💰 Imperialism is the process by which empires exert their dominion and economic control over other nations, often through exploitation and expropriation. 50:34 🌐 Investments and aid in the third world can increase poverty, as wealth accumulation often benefits the ruling and investing class of the imperial country. 55:38 📈 IMF policies may bring hardship to the people of target countries but can be highly profitable for a small group of wealthy investors, making them successful from a certain perspective. 56:50 🌍 The term "failure" is used to maintain the dominant paradigm and avoid radical analysis, which often ignores the true interests behind policies. 57:05 💰 Plutocratic investors and working people in recipient countries do not share a community of interest, highlighting the importance of class analysis. 57:32 🤑 The question "cui bono?" or "who benefits?" is crucial in understanding the motives behind policies, especially in the context of the IMF. 58:13 🇮🇶 The war in Iraq was not a blunder but served certain interests, including sending a message to countries pursuing independent paths. 01:00:09 🇮🇶 Saddam Hussein, initially supported by the U.S., turned into an enemy when he resisted economic globalization and maintained state ownership of the economy. 01:02:55 🛢 The Iraq war also aimed at securing control over vast oil reserves and manipulating oil prices. 01:04:53 💰 The Iraq war led to record increases in the defense budget, benefiting military-industrial complex interests. 01:05:33 💵 Iraq's switch from euros to dollars as its reserve currency served U.S. financial interests. 01:06:13 🇮🇶 Iraq's shift from supporting Palestinian liberation to privatization and destruction of its economy. 01:06:41 💡 Officialdom and media sometimes struggle to manipulate reality, and people develop skepticism toward propaganda. 01:08:20 💼 Those in power believe in protecting and advancing their own interests above all else. 01:12:47 🌐 The ruling class's primary goal throughout history is to acquire everything while paying none of the costs. 01:19:45 🗳 The ruling class targets the American public with propaganda because the empire relies on the support of the republic. 01:21:37 🔄 Over time, sedatives can become suffocating, and irritants can enliven, prompting people to seek a more meaningful perspective. 01:21:50 🌍 Parenti emphasizes the importance of resisting fundamentalist free-market plutocracy and exposing the dominant paradigm. 01:22:32 💰 Getting involved in political causes, contributing financially, and supporting political counter-propaganda is crucial, as the left tends to donate more to such causes. 01:24:00 📻 Parenti criticizes the American labor movement for not taking action in the realm of radio, while conservatives have effectively controlled the narrative through radio ownership. 01:26:48 🏛 The right-wing has strategically influenced the federal judiciary over the years, while the left has often underestimated their effectiveness in this area.
