You keep shortshifting. you need need to rev the tits off it to get the full noise from that end can. It does sound better at low revs with a deeper tone.

Great bike but I'd never buy from a dealer that load up a bike with their name and logo. Car manufacturers do that enough, we don't need it on bikes.

Gday mate, I engineered my bike and lifted 2 expantion chambers under RGV m series tail complete with heat plate 2 Stingers exit the old rgv lights. Rgv m series mags with rear tire hugger and rgvm front nose and side pannels . Rgvm brakes and upside down forks. Fitted stronger mono shock. MoT certifying engineer said the bike had excellent mods to make bike handle and brake well, bringing bike to today's specs. Looks much like a ducati bi pesto 990. Through the oil injector into the rubbish bin imediately and pre mix. Piston 2 is famous for burning up from blocked injector to carrborator. Bush pig at low speed. But all hell breaks loose at 3000rpm. Hang on tight. Andrew Nz

You’ll want to look after the headstock bearings from wheelies-it will beat the bearing pocket oval and you’ll end up with a clicking feeling that can’t be cured by tightening the bearings on the steering stem. IMO this is a lot of the reason they tank slap.

how much miles did you do on a gen 2 GT by now? were there any reliability issues in all these years? would you say that a 1290 GT is a reliable bike? great video :D keep up the good work :D

Hello. I think I done about 5,000 miles on it. I did have one problem with it. it did not start and it said fuel pump fault on the dash. Took it to KTM and no codes. It just said battery low voltage. Put a new battery on it was ok for the rest of the time I had it. But only done about 1,000 more miles and got a Ducati. I don’t think it was a battery as it was turning over nice and quickly. Great bikes to ride and fantastic engines but they do have some electrical problems. But all bikes do.

Just found your channel wow such memories. I’m 61 years old and just took early retirement, had bikes from 16 to 40 years old. Now I’m retired and have time on my hands I’m looking to buy a 2stroke again. I’m not that tall or big built so looking for a bit of advice. I did have an x7 back in the day but thought the Rgv was the one that got away. So in your opinion should it be an Rgv or something more upright LC 250/ 350. Looking at a place called fast line in Preston and Chris hall in Doncaster. I’m in Scotland but would have the bike delivered. Any advice would be appreciated. Take care and look after those old strokers . Tom.

Shame about the extra work on the crankcase, that said why did you go to all the trouble of vapour blasting the barrels and having them checked over etc, only to leave the crankcase untouched? Especially when it had the dreaded orange sealant and how import a sealed crankcase is on a 2stoke! Lesson learned there hopefully.

They came during an era of fast fall in new bike costs, I got my 2000 version for 6.5K new which was also easy to get cheap finance for. The only thing holding people back was the ever present issue of insurance costs. We didn't understand at the time but it was a golden era for bikers.
