If you ever take it apart again can you list the part number for the CPU fan assembly? Mine is having clicking noises when running and I can't send it for warranty repair because I bought it on ebay. It might just be the cable underneath hitting the fan idk.

could you explain what was broken about your porta pros? was it just that they were previously disassembled with the cord cut? I have a pair of porta pros and one driver stopped working. I dont know if the cable is frayed or if the driver gave up. If its just a frayed cabled, i would love to give this mod a try

Hi Alex,or anyone interested, can someone tell me if the ipods on eBay from china are any good,im thinking about the 1 tb version, and are there any problems connecting to iTunes on a mac ,an older mac of about 5/6 years old, thanks for any help, this was a great help Alex.

@iamalexsun 17 күн бұрын
Never had any experience with those iPods from China, I'm sure they'll work fine. Honestly I think they're a bit overpriced and you don't know exactly what you're getting. You could look into Elite Obsolete Electronics (eoe.works), they build custom iPods alongside selling all the parts for all iPod generations, if you want to tackle it yourself. Hope this helps.

At first I got these I tried to talk for a few hours on concrete having never worn barefoot shoes. Ouch! It's hard concrete directly hitting a small point on the bottom of your heel..when they said you'll feel what's underfoot they mean it. I had to put some soft and thin inserts in them..I can still feel what's underfoot (which is why I bought them) but concrete is bearable for a few hours. Hikes are a dream and there's wasn't a bad break in period. And even with the inserts my arches aren't too supported so expect some muscle soreness in your arches as they build up strength.

Welcome to the barefoot shoes club! Changing the way you walk will help a lot. Forefoot vs heel walking takes a lot of getting used to.

Great video and I'm in the process of doing this with my iPod 5th gen, formerly with 30gb! Now with an iFlash Solo with 512gb... It went fine so far, the iPod gets recognised by my Mac in DFU mode, I clicked restore and this is doing it now since almost 30 minutes with no progress 😫 What could that be? Thanks 🙏🏻 PS: I did format the SD card beforehand and not while the iPod as a drive connected to my Mac... 🤔

This seems like a very common issue when modding iPods with a flash storage system. Reformatting the SD card outside of the iPod with the iflash instructions or try restarting the iPod and plugging it in again. Hope this helps! www.iflash.xyz/prepare-sdxc-exfat-for-use-with-the-ipod/ This guide helped me solve the same issue you're running into.

I feel like modding an iPod is more for the challenge and the fact of actually doing it rather than adding more functionality. Yeah adding more storage and Bluetooth and a cool colour case is handy but the fact you’ve built it feels fun and like you’ve done something. I built a classic 3rd gen from three broken ones and it was even more special as I had built it. Yeah we can stream but owning it on something you’ve made better yourself is a good feeling

Nice job. Like someone else said..... I think you pushed a needle bearing into the differential. That could be a widow maker. I would have replaced the seal that got messed up. Just my opinion. Never use an open end wrench on a bolt head that you can get a boxed end wrench on. Putting seals in can be a hassle. Better to use a seal installation kit or make a tool out of something like a socket, etc. The axel has some recesses around the housing. You can use a soft punch and hit it with a dead blow hammer to pop it out. You can also pry on those recesses it you set up a pinch bar. That thin piece of metal you bent up is a shield. As long as it doesn't touch the seal, you be fine. Keep up the good work. Learn as you go. Thanks for the video

I had the same "song skip" issue with 320kbps aac files. I tried all kinds of resolutions, but what fixed it for me was downgrading the album art quality on the files to 200x200 (as much of my artwork was originally 1500x1500 or larger). The 5.5 iPod seems to have issue quickly loading files with higher quality album art, causing it to skip songs. As soon as I downgraded all album artwork, I never got another skipped song.
