Wow amazing that you got to sit in the stadium for some of the track competitions. I've been following a few from the TV. I watched the men's marathon yesterday and for the first time realized what a challenging course the marathon is with all the hills. With Kipchoge DNFing I started to feel a bit worried for you, but I also only realized that the marathon was so late during the day yesterday. I literally thought you would start like an hour after the pro's or something :D Can't wait to hear your take, I'm guessing the late evening start helped a lot with the heat. Did you cheer on any of the marathons from the sidelines? Just watched the women's one this morning and that was HISTORIC omg, so much suspense till the end unbelievable! It must have been soooo amazing to try out the same course as the elites

You've come a really long way! In case I don't manage to find the time to watch and comment on the next video before the marathon: YOU CAN DO THIS! This is your victory lap, I hope you will enjoy every second of it! It must be such a cool race and tbh I'm a tiny bit (or a huge bit) jealous I can't be there :D (Don't let pace and expectations ruin the race ^^) I believe in you and can't wait to see how it goes! Glad to see you're back on your feet! I was thinking about asking about the M&Ms but I see you're one step ahead of me and admitted defeat :D What training plan are using again? Also what are your thoughts on doing the 80/20 method with 80% of your training being in HR Zone 2? Don't be discouraged by your long run. They are not meant to be at race pace or serve as a race success indicator. Even if you took 6 hours for the 24km you would have still trained your body to endure activity aka "time on your feet" for 6 hours which still has a big impact on your training. I believe you can do this!!
@Austin.McInerney2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much 😊 the training plan is on an app called Runna. I read on Reddit and from a few friends that it was a good plan so I decided to pay for the subscription and overall I like it. 80/20 was actually what I wanted to do my runs in during this program but I think I just got too much into my head during this training block about speed and wanting to finish faster rather than realizing that I should focus on the long game and running 80/20. So it’s definitely something I’d like to try again in the future if I do another marathon or half marathon 😎

Really glad you went to physio and stopped before it could get any worse. Hope all the rest and stretching makes things better so you can pick up where you left off :) Regarding thoughts of injury during the workout: I'm guilty off still pushing when I feel a niggle and hoping for it to go away. I usually consider the risk more during planning and find myself being really careful with increasing the load. I guess I'm lucky I haven't gotten injured yet
@Austin.McInerney3 ай бұрын
Thank You 😊 Yeah I definitely think I’m at the being careful with increased load point at the moment. Really trying to find the right balance between pushing hard so I’m ready for the marathon and not over pushing and getting injured.

No way, I was down with a cold the entire last week too. Glad you're better! During that time I also kind of put my diet on hold so I can relate to that as well. Did you know there is actually some science too doing a "deload"/"maintenance" week in a healthy weight-loss diet? Basically you are eating exactly as many calories as you need during that time so it's kind of like a cheat week but with a limit :D Maybe that can be an idea for the next vacation so that you are allowed to enjoy more foods you want without going overboard. Also sharing treats is really op I found in the past month. Things like splitting one chocolate croissant into two and giving the other half to your significant other or friend. Keep up the training! (Just so I can see more of Ireland)

Took a bit until I realized that the thumbnail belongs to your video :D M&M's as running food? Sounds terrible, but you do you :D There are a lot of cheaper gels out there than the one you showcased btw, but if I were to go for a cheap substitute it would be gummy bears. A lot more sugar, a lot less fat. Definitely a closer match to actual gels. And one thing I always consider is minerals. The gels that make me feel the best usually have a high sodium/magnesium content. A lot of people just have electrolytes in a separate bottle to top off what they are losing through sweat, but I like the simplicity of combining the gel with it. With water I had it work really well once when I forced myself to only have one or two sips every kilometer. That way I stayed consistent, but also didn't overdo it :)
@Austin.McInerney4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I tried to play around with the Thumbnail/Title to see if it would help with a larger reach. Gummy Bears are a good shout I've seen a bunch of people recommending them on Reddit they're just too chewy for me and tend to get stuck in my teeth. How's your preparations for the Half Marathon coming along?
@7TheNikki4 ай бұрын
@@Austin.McInerney Oh I'm in a slump with training. But it's okay, I've got time :D Just a mix of allergies and my training buddy being sick. But despite those weeks of doing only a few runs I ran another 5k PB on Tuesday, so the endurance is still there :)

Really loving the series! Just watched through every weekly video, and gotta say, you're doing a great job. I am currently working towards the next year's marathon event in my own country, and just got my 10k session finished up! For the heavy legs(I had the same symptoms after running my first 6k) I am currently wearing compression calf sleeves and at first I wasn't really sure this would do the trick, but the legs felt much better after wearing those and running! Do you experience cramps in your legs as well? To me, they are the worst after waking up from sleep. Plenty of water and electrolytes tends to do the trick. Are you trying out different brands of gel supplements? I tried out one of them and even though they improved my running pace, it left an uncomfortable, sticky feeling in my mouth. Make sure you try out some of them and pick out the best ones for your taste. What kind of shoes are you wearing for the event? As a bulky man myself, I currently use the brooks ghost max for running. Even though it's on the heavier side, it really makes the strides more stable while providing the necessary cushion. Overall, the weight-loss aspect and working towards the goal fills you up with fulfillment. Even the little things such as not feeling my thighs chaffing really improves my mood. Boosts my self-esteem as well when peeps say I look smaller than before. I hope the same goes for you as well. I'll be waiting for your weekly updates!
@Austin.McInerney5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the advice and best of luck with your Marathon too 😊 Thankfully I haven’t had any major cramps yet, I had a slight cramp in my quad after one run but a good Ice Bath, stretch and rest did the trick for me. Next week I’m trying my first experience on my long run with something that’s kind of like a gel so I’ll definitely be taking about it in next weeks video. For training I’m wearing the Asics Gel Nimbus 25. I’m normally a Nike Guy and tried the Invincible Run 3’s out but the heel slippage was just too much for me. For the marathon itself I’m looking for a pair of Nike Alphafly 3’s but I’m not 100% sure yet.
@nearmouse5 ай бұрын
@@Austin.McInerney Heard good things about the Alphafly 3's. Really wanted to get them as well, but I heard that the shoe width was narrow, which was a no-go for me. Wish I had narrower feet :(

To answer your questions: I signed up for my first half-marathon in October, so that is my goal for the year. I would like to be able to complete it in 2:30:00, but in case that doesn't happen, I just want to have fun :) During long runs I like to go with a friend and just chat the entire way. If I'm alone I usually just listen to nothing until I get bored of that and might switch to music or an audio book. Speaking of Long Runs: How do you handle long run fuelling? Are you taking any gels or electrolytes during?
@Austin.McInerney5 ай бұрын
Awesome that's a great goal and best of luck with the Half Marathon 🔥🔥 My long runs at the moment haven't gotten up to the lengths of me testing any gels or electrolytes but over the next few weeks I'm looking to start testing some gels and even some sweets on long runs to see what works and what doesn't and make sure they're okay for my stomach before race day 😀

@@Austin.McInerney That's nice. I ordered some to test a while back and it's really taking a long time to try them all out properly. There only one long run per week for me, so it's a really slow process. Luckily I haven't had any that didn't agree with me yet :D

Great job! Those are really solid workouts and great weight loss. Let's see a video on what tech you are using. For example what are you using to measure your heart rate? That run where you averaged 190+ beats per minute sounds really high. I am curious to see what device measured that high of a heart rate for so long. Definitely let us see your different workouts. It is motivating to see other people getting after it too. I started the week at 92 KGs(203 lbs) and I am down to 89 Kgs now. After I saw your first video I decided to get back into shape too. I probably won't be able to get back in marathon shape like you but I signed up for a 10 miler at the end of the year. Again, great job. Keep up the great work and keep posting the videos.

Wishing you all the best. Other people have put advice here but here’s a few things I’ve learnt from running, do a mixture of paces when running it’s not possible to run at your max every day in a row and indeed you need to build up your red blood cell count which only happens in aerobic respiration, aim to run at about 80% of your max regularly and for periods which increase with time. Be careful with dieting around running if by the end of your 18 weeks you are running a lot then you will need energy to perform best, losing weight is a related but a slightly different goal to running long distance. When you get to the point of running more than 10k running gels can be good to have on you to ensure you are running with the most energy. Finally it’s okay to walk if you need to but DONT STOP. You got this :)

I don't know you and I am interested to see how this goes. But I have to say, the strict rules you outlined made alarm bells ring in my head. It's good to have goals, don't get me wrong, but calling them rules that under no circumstances can be broken is a bit extreme and just won't end well when you fall off. (Just think of the binge-restrict cycle that is often mentioned in connection to unsuccessful diets) Also be careful not to overtrain: More isn't always more and you need to give your body some rest progress sometimes. Overall, I'm rooting for you! Please be kind to yourself :)

Good luck man, make sure to do AT LEAST one gym day every week where you just focus on strengthening your feet, calfs, ham strings, quads, hips and core. It will make you way less injury prone, that can be the difference between finishing a race or not for a lot of people. Also skipping is probably the best all round exercise you have in your arsenal outside of… running… for running. You probably know that from boxing though. Good luck! I subbed
@Austin.McInerney6 ай бұрын

I subscribed to your channel because I really want to see how you do. I have to admit that I think your goals are too aggressive. I weigh over 200 lbs now and I qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon last year. However, I ran every day for 5 years in order to get in good enough shape for that. If you are trying to get in marathon shape in several months it is going to be next to impossible to do that at the weight you are at right now. My best advice is to start slow especially with the running. Set a goal that you are going to run at least a mile every single day until the race and don’t cheat even one day. You can spare 10 minutes every single day to just run around the block a few times. Doing that every single day will keep you accountable. If you skip even one day it will be really hard not to skip another and then another. I wish you all the best in this endeavor. We are all rooting for you. Keep posting the videos and let us know how you are doing. We can keep you motivated.
