My thumb just moves forward behind my index finger and points to the headstock as soon as I stop thinking about having it pointing up.

Worlds only bass teacher who thinks that dot inlays are a bad idea. Why don't you play fretless on an instrument without fret lines to make it even harder?

I go 1,1,3 for the hit me bit. I saw a metal guy doing fast sixteenths with two finger together, using the back side of the fingers for a double stroke. It was really working well in that case. Great analysis

This song is driving me crazy, everyone plays it slightly differently. Lots of folks have a you hammer off the F to D. Also the dead notes vary across the web, a d which bits slap and pop are varied 😭

This was one time I really wanted someone to tell me what to do/give me an answer. I really don’t understand why I play music but maybe it’s just cause I can and it’s really not that deep.

John: you’re obviously a virtuoso, but what advice do you have for the oft’ bass player thrown into a band by default when he’s the least accomplished guitar player, like I was… at first I took a Berklee grad’s lessons, but when he noticed I was writing whole songs we were giggling and recording he said f**k it and he’d write my demos in full standard notation and he’d work with me on rock bass lines which supported the songs. Not the best way to learn the instrument, but it just worked well enough to open for Govt Mule, Little Steven’s Rock n Roll Circus and Ny dolls and the Supersuckers. Btw, I was a hack rhythm self taught guitar player to begin with but I had an ear for writing music. What’s your opinion and advice for that scenario.?

Ahh this was awesome @josh.fosgreen!! Thank you for posting this. I am learning bass guitar by myself; working through a beginner guide but once I got to half notes semi-breve etc, I hit a blocker!! This video and your tutorial has helped me so much and now I am excited to get going with some exercises 😃 As a drummer it also increased my under of time signature in drum sheet music too… I am starting to see how it all fits together 🤯👍🏼🫶🏼 Thank you SOOOO much!!

Josh, this is like traveling back in time for me. Look how young you were, WOW!!! You’re an excellent instructor and I want you to know how much I appreciate your tutorials. Nobody and I mean nobody explains technique and execution better than you. You use different camera angles which is priceless for learning hand positions. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with fellow bass players, your teachings are invaluable. 😃

"Bring useful things." my mind: got it, so an emergency second bass. strings, cables, batteries, and 2 different tuners. the list: batteries, cables, picks, extension cords, power strips. my mind: "In what world would a second backup bass not be useful?"

at 4 mins on video.. what if my fingers dont stretch even that much? like they barely can be on four frets which are next to eachother and my pointer and middle finger gap stretches so much already, is there any solutions for non stretchy ?
