I've had good luck using cayenne pepper as a deterrent for pine voles. Either putting the powder directly on the ground where they are eating the grass or mixing it in a garden watering can and distributing it that way. Can't use a pump sprayer or a hand sprayer. They clog up. One question. How do you keep them away from mature junipers in the winter. I'm in SE CT.

They seem to jump 7ft. fences here (central MD) unless they can't see the other side *or* if there are obstructions where they would want to take off or land. We're patiently growing out or visual screens along the inside of the fenceline. The most deer-resistant plantings we've found for the front yard are hardy hibiscus, iris, phenomenal lavender, canna, turmeric, ginger, and of course daffodils. Might have to try spirea! Are coyote and other predator urines inhumanely produced?

This was very informative. Thank you. I've had all the gadgets for tick removal, but found that the easiest one to use was a sewing thread. I make a loop that I tighten around the teeth. This way I don't squeeze the tick at all. Is there anything I should be aware of with this technique that I just didn't think about?

Does the watering schedule need to stay on the overseeding schedule of a few short waterings every day..?

@pat5873 I'm guessing it should in order to keep that new seed from drying out. Probably for a weeks till germination.

Would this repetitive seeding be done after fall aeration, overseeding, and topdressing is done? Then do an additional 4 more times every 2 weeks?

Is a drop spreader necessary or a broadcast spreader would work also?

This is very nicely done - I like the informal, conversational style. The presentation comes across as very genuine, not gussied up or scripted; so appropriate for a meet-your-farmer tour. I know some of these hard-working folks, and enjoyed seeing them "just as they really are" - and think you did a good job at choosing a variety of farm types. Hope to see more work along these lines!
