Ah man I would have loved to see the breakfast portion as well! How was the food overall? I saw some mixed reviews about it. We’re going there this September! Excited to go but nervous about what they said about the food :( did you guys do anything else in the hotel?

Overall, we liked the food, especially the sashimi and beef shabu. You can see the breakfast portion in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXrQf5WmgMR1etk :) We didn't really do anything else in the hotel, just relaxed in our room and enjoyed the onsen. That's exciting, hope you like it! :)

It was our first time trying kaiseki so we didn't have anything to compare it to, but we enjoyed the food. It was also beautifully presented and there were a variety of dishes to try.

Can i ask how far were you from the open air museum and could you get vegetarian food at the hotel?
@bearlyadventures
@bearlyadventures 6 ай бұрын
Hakone Airu is approximately 8.9km from the Open-Air Museum. According to Google Maps, it would be about a 20 minute drive, or 30-50 minutes using public transportation. We're not sure since we didn't have any vegetarians in our group, but you could try to make a special meal request to the ryokan.

The beef shabu was included in their standard plan. :) We booked directly with the ryokan at their website here: www.hakone-airu.com/en/

@bearlyadventures

Breakfast and dinner was not served in our room, but in one of the private dining rooms on the same floor as our room. The private dining rooms were located outside our room through a hallway, and we used the same private dining room for breakfast and dinner for the duration of our stay. :)

Manten Sushi's reservation website mentions serving omakase to elementary school students and older, though we're not sure if it's a smaller portion or the same as their their regular omakase. Only children older than 12 who can order a course are allowed at Sushi Ya unfortunately.

We made the reservation for Sushi Ya via myconciergejapan.com. Both are English friendly as the chef will introduce each item in English, and the chef at Sushi Ya also made conversation with us in English. :)

It is interesting that you got 1/3 fewer items at Sushi Ya and it was 1/3 more expensive. Your captions seemed to indicate you liked Sushi Ya more. Was it due to the quality of the ingredients, the demeanor of the chef, the ambience of the environment, or the engagement with other diners?
@bearlyadventures

We really enjoyed both restaurants and wouldn’t hesitate to go back to either one, but would go to Manten Sushi if we were in the mood for a more casual experience, and Sushi Ya for a more quiet and intimate environment. We liked everything we ate at Sushi Ya and the chef also made more conversation with the guests. While we did like the food overall at Manten Sushi, there were some items that were just alright. Definitely still a good value though!

Hello. Did you buy breakfast daily or did you purchase a meal plan? If you did either, how much did cost?
@bearlyadventures
@bearlyadventures Жыл бұрын
We booked a vacation package, and breakfast was already included in the price of the package. However, based on our research when planning the trip, paying for breakfast there would've been about $50 USD per person per day. We're not sure if that price is still accurate as of today.

Which udon do you think was better between Udon Shin and Curry Udon Senkichi?
@bearlyadventures
@bearlyadventures Жыл бұрын
Even though Udon Shin is more popular, we actually prefer Curry Udon Senkichi because their udon was perfectly cooked and more chewy. But if you are looking for something more unique, Udon Shin is still worth a try. The butter and egg udon was an interesting combination we hadn't tried before and it reminded us of Italian pasta. That being said, you can't go wrong with either, they were both great!
