We use mapp gas and a bernzo-matic torch head , available most anywhere. You can use propane but mapp is a hotter gas and takes less time to heat up the parts, the brazing rod is afc1000, prefluxed brazing rods. These are from EAS gas and supply, along with the bq33 rods from this same vendor.

Is there a color you look for when you have enough heat? Or just how the rod melts? Great video!

I’m new to doing air-conditioning and I just recently bought the crimper. When I put the bead lock fitting on do I need to put gasket inside the brad lock before crimping? Or only the gasket on the outside that hooks to the compressor? Thank you in advance.

I apologize for the delay. I had to get with our engineer. There is no gasket there.

Really nice instructional video. Thank you- I picked up a lot of good tips. This is perfect for working on vintage vehicles with old hoses made of unobtainium. To the chuckle-heads below... watch ALL 5 STEPS! One additional point/suggestion. In addition to marking the orientation, it is also helpful to match the natural curve of the hose. So make your marks at the outside of the curve, and then load the new hose the same way.

I know that welding after cleaning with brake cleaner is lethal doesn’t brazing have the same effect?
@RoyalBrassandHose6 ай бұрын
Brazing does not melt the base metals. This means that brazing temperatures are invariably lower than the melting points of the base metals.

Hi, Nice video. I owned an automotive air conditioning and radiator shop for 30 years. I opened it in 1973 and it is still open today by a former employee. I have few comments: (1.) I was taught to clean aluminum with a clean stainless steel wire brush . (2.) I would not have dipped an A/C fitting in water. (3.) It was always a complaint of mine that they didn't make A/C hoses with reusable fittings in the first place. (4.) The R-12 hose barb fittings could be reused. They wrer held on to the hose by the center of the hose. We double clamped them or crimped with A/C hose ferrules. (5.) Barrier hose does not use hose barb fittings to hold the fitting to hose, but uses a bubble crimped ferule. (6.) I experimented with adding A/C hose crimp ferrules to factory hoses and then bubble crimp them. One method I used elongated the hole in the crimp ferrules so it could hook onto the factory hose fitting. I have noticed that some company uses a cage assembly and then special clamps.

Hi saw your comment and wondered if you had any advice for an old fart trying to block off my AC at the rear of my transit van . Seeing the aluminium welding technique I’m wondering if I can flatten the pipe ends leaving a small gap and aluminium weld the end . I live in the uk and having difficulty getting compression fittings to do the job . Thank you

What kind of torch and flame gas you are using. I use butane gas CAN and normal torch and flux inbuilt rod to weld but 90% of it fails. Pipe got white carbon and material doesn’t stuck and rod doesn’t melt properly. Please tell me about the gas, torch & rod u are using and if possible give me link of the products

Mark the ends then throw it in the bin, ain't worth trying to fix 350 psi air con tubes, I tried lol, just spent the last 2 hours removing my old Aluminium tubes ready for the new ones. Most air compressor hoses are rated to 270 psi. So Imagine how puffed out they get with constant 350 psi. 😔
