Just stumbled on this. I own an original vinyl of this album from the '70s as well as the one mentioned in the reply to another comment. Lincoln Mayorga & Amanda McBroom (she wrote "the Rose"), "Growing Up in Hollywood Town". Both on Dave Grusin's direct-to-disc label, Sheffield Labs. Another great is Dave's own album, about 1973, I believe. "Discovered Again". Used to play the vinyls on a Luxman turntable with Adcom H-CE moving coil cartridge. Sound was mind-blowing compared to any other form of recording....

Used to read science fiction stories back in the early '70's in So. Cal. And the only way I could concentrate was to listen to the local easy listening stations- KOST & XTRA. Would always wait for this one- like being on another world for a few minutes...

Y me sigue pareciendo bueno (recordad, año 1972), aunque no tan acojonante (tenía 16 años) ahora.

Thanks for posting. This is one of my father's favorite album. He has a few of Sheffield Labs records and he treasured them so much. My dad is an Audiophile and I heard this record playing with a different combination of stereo components from Phase Linear 400 & 700B, Audio Research SP4 & SP10, Scientific Audio Electronics (SAE), David Hafler, Carver, MIT interconnects & speaker cables, Pickering, Grado, Koetsu Black, Counterpoint, Audible Illusion, California Electronics, Thorens TD124, Shure Mark IV V15, Luxman PD 121, Crown 300B, Geat American Sound (GAS), Conrad Johnson, Dalqusit DQ10, Acoustic Research AR 3a, 2a, 4, 7, Dynaco, Harman Kardon, Fischer, JBL, Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, Dual, Technics, Garrard 0-100, SME 3009, Peerless, etc, and many many more, and this is just to name a few. Now my father (Ody) is gone many years ago. We listened together to this music, and tweaking and calibrating the set-up, these are my happy days with him. He left me all his knowledge and experiences as a true Audiophile plus all his remaining gears. This is bringing back memories. Thank You so much for posting.

The reason he is never mentioned as on of the all time late night greats is simply this. He was in a league of his own! So much deeper, funnier, and infinitely more creative than ANY OF THEM. He was about entertainment pure and simple. No script, no politics, just comedy and humanity. Plus the best interviewer of celebs ever. A complete genius.

The lights didn't actually come on for the Salman Rushdie interview. If the lights actually had returned, he would've finished Alicia Silverstone's bit first. They don't film the sequences in order. The Salman Rushdie interview had been taped before; this "closer" was filmed right after the lights went off with Alicia SIlverstone (probably right before they had to evacuate the audience). That's why the audience laughs at the beginning when he says "luckily the power came on for the Salman Rushdie interview but it's gone off again" while rolling his eyes - it's a sort of wink to camera about how the shows are actually produced. Interviews in particular tend to be taped out of order because the celebrities might only be available at a specific time. They may not even be filmed on the same day. Sequences are often filmed several days in advance (something Craig jokes about often) - as long as Craig is wearing roughly the same color suit and tie, the viewer won't know the difference (incidentally, this is why talk show hosts tend to wear fairly standard outfits without accessories). This is also why Craig sometimes had the "What *will* we learn on the show tonight, Craig" sequence at the beginning of shows - the cold opens are often filmed well after the other bits, so they've already filmed the interviews and whatever (There's a great cold open where Craig comes out and apologizes in advance for a tasteless joke he's going to make later on).

This was my first ever L.P. bought for me by my dad when I was about 7. I only picked it because of the cover and the cartoon animals but actually it turned out to be a happy accident as lush orchestrations, great ballads and the like have always been my love. I no longer have a deck but I still have the LP.

my name is Wes Tweedy. i am the son on Don Tweedy. Rich Mountain Tower lived on a farm my dad owned and visited our home regularly and ate dinner wigh us etc. I was about 10 or 11. I got to hang out in the studio for a lot of this album. my dad did way more than just play Moog on Maggie. he did some arrangements and I believe produced (or at least co-produced) the album. i have always, and still am in awe of my dad's musical genius, especially when I switched from bassoon to bass guitar at the ripe old age of 12 :-) many say that my kid brother and I inherited a lot of his gift. Sadly, my baby brother Kristopher Alan Tweedy passed away Sept. 7, 2016. I have always held a very special place in my heart for Rich Mountain Tower. They were an absolutely phenomenal band, and very cool people.
