Always use positive language to formulate your suggestions. If your suggestion is in the form of do not Do X your subconscious mind will very likely only hear Do X. when someone tells you Don't think of an elephant the first thing you think of is an elephant. Hypnotic suggestions work the same way. Instead of saying I will not be tense and nervous in my next meeting say I will be relaxed and calm in my next meeting. You want to focus the power of your subconscious mind on what you want to achieve rather than on what you're trying to avoid.

One other thing you can do is try to see behind you without turning around

this is awesome, peter j carrol talks about a similar way to ender that trance/no-mind state he calls "right way of walking", where you do this same sort of defocusing thing, while walking steadily and holding your hands in strange positions so you feel more in your arms (they tend to kind of disappear in sensation as you walk). its a form of "excitatory gnosis" that overwhelms the senses, ideally so that the mind reflexively quiets and you can focus directly on your subject of desire, without "lust for results", anxiety and fear which ultimately encourage the non-result.
