@cwflies4 ай бұрын
I tired to get the fly but it was in a thought to get to spot and being by myself I’d rather lose the fly so the fish can recover faster. The fly will rust out quickly and that fish will be good to go.

Mullet run is tough for fly guys. It’s more a game of luck when throwing into those massive schools. Not my favorite time of the year to fish tarpon.

Hi there! I come from South Africa and also enjoy carp on a fly (much to peoples disgust lol) living in fort Lauderdale and I’ve hit that exact spot a few times, very nice, but the numbers I’ve been getting is a little skinny. When is the season that the trees fruit and drop? Haha I wish I could post a photo, but let’s just say carp on fly in Florida is great👌🏻

It is a very thin wire for the core. You can easily make your own using fish hair and daddy long legs.

I know you posted this 1+ year ago so maybe too late for questions but, wondering why a lot of these tarpon flies are tied so far back on the hook and leave so much front shank exposed?
@cwflies Жыл бұрын
Classic tarpon flies are normally tied with exposed shank so the fly could be tied with a snell knot. With smaller diameter leaders now most people no longer snell the hook and go with other knots like a loop knot for movement.
@eorchids18 ай бұрын
@@cwflies Thank you! I wondered why some leave the hook bare, some wrap them.

Great to see fellow Floridian chasing carp on the fly! I’m in Central FL and fish for them in my back yard. Could you share what hook and materials you use for the the fly?
@cwflies Жыл бұрын
The hook is a gamakatsu C14 glow bug hook in #2 for strength, wide gap, and darker color. Materials is a pompano float I glue to the hook the color red and coat with gorilla glue. It normally just works under the berry trees but evenly once in a while a free swimmer in the open will come take a look at it.

@@darrenrodgers6425 I'm in Stuart but i fish in cooper city area. Mirror carp for sure fight better. Grass carp are very strong but can just feel like reeling in weight at times. Gotta love that topwater eat from them. Always a fun fish to target before searching for peacocks.
