I’d also take Hampton Court over Borough Market any day - far too touristy - although Southwark Crown Court is nearby - I’d go there or the Old Bailey and catch a murder trial …

Yeah, I loved the Borough Market experience because it was just overwhelming in a great way. I wanted to buy so much cheese, but of course we couldn't take that home with us. Sad we didn't make it to Hampton Court - their hours were already shorter for Winter and we just had too much fun at Tower of London to leave early enough to make it! It will definitely be on our list for the next trip!

Love that you're a London cabbie and history lover! I'll admit that I'm a former museum curator, so I might have a different perspective on the ethics and practices of the bygone era of archaeologists. I'm grateful to be able to see all the preserved artifacts though - it's a gorgeous museum, and there's SO much more I want to see. Could spend all day there!

I definitely understand that sentiment too. I'm grateful to be able to see the artifacts, and I'm all for preserving history. The ethics surrounding collection have changed drastically since then, but for the most part - I do believe the intentions were good!

UK didn't Colonize and take everything, most artifacts were either gifted, purchased or saved for the World !!! Elgin Marbles were saved from certain destruction and purchased !!! Don't be lazy when trying to be factual !!!!
@DiscoLiz
@DiscoLiz 14 сағат бұрын
I didn’t say they took everything, but it’s factual that many of the items in museums were taken during a bygone era when removing items from their origin wasn’t frowned upon. And Great Britain just happened to be one of the most prolific collectors due to colonization. It’s not a knock on England - lots of museums around the world are dealing with the ethics of this in modern times.

Did you go to Abbey Road DLR station before you went to St. John's Wood to see the studio? I've seen the occasional video of tourists going to the wrong station expecting to find the studios near Stratford. There's now a poster at Abbey Road DLR station informing people that they in the wrong place and giving them directions to the right place.
@DiscoLiz
@DiscoLiz 21 сағат бұрын
Thankfully we did NOT, but let me tell you - Mike had figured out the directions of how to get there, and I followed his lead. While we were on the train, I kept looking at the map and seeing Abbey Road station, trying to figure out how the heck the train we were on was going to get to that station! I finally asked Mike outloud and he told me that wasn't the station! I could easily see how tourists get confused!

My favorite Christmas memory is from 2016. We had been trying for a few years to have a baby and it wasn't working for us. One day I was driving home from work and Happy Xmas (war is over) was on the radio and I just started to cry. I knew right then that I was pregnant as there was no other logical reason why I would be randomly crying over a Christmas song 🤣. Super special memory ❤. Glad our card was part of your Christmas Eve cards- I sent my cards later than planned- glad you got it in time 😊. Thanks for your response card- its so nice that you do the card exchange yearly!
