I hope that they make sure to plant a variety of trees so that it won’t be a monoculture

I live in Illinois and it breaks my heart how much natural ecosystems have been lost to industrial agriculture. I am currently looking for work in rewilding and helping nature heal around me. This video brings me so much hope<3 I hope to help do exactly this

@@SUGiProject Mainly right now, I am helping work on native rain gardens at schools with the volunteer organization Texas Master Naturalists. They will feature edible and medicinal plants and be open to the public as well! I also help Wildscapers Landscaping maintain a public native prairie at Prairie Commons, and help out with projects at the nature preserve LLELA on Lewisville Lake. I work on private projects as well, but the public spaces - conversions from lawn mainly - are so beautiful since the local community really benefits and learns from them. Recently Lewisville City also had a big public volunteer day planting thousands of native trees throughout the city, they also are converting all the medians and public right-of-ways into native wildflower meadows and pocket prairies, and offer rebates for residents converting their front lawns into native landscapes. Especially when folks get to plant the plants themselves, it really helps build relationships with our local ecosystems and increases care and knowledge about restoring native habitat.

@@SUGiProject I do wish more projects in Texas involved land reclamation for indigenous communities, or even acknowledged indigenous ecological knowledge more. It is something I strive to push for and explain in any education I do here, but we definitely need a lot more of it.

@@SUGiProject It looks like my reply didn't go through, but mainly I am working with the volunteer organization Texas Master Naturalists on rain gardens at schools, and with Wildscapers Landscaping on a public native prairie, as well as helping at the nature preserve LLELA in Lewisville. The City of Lewisville is doing a lot of great work restoring native habitat as well. They just held a massive public volunteer day planting thousands of native trees, they're converting all medians into native wildflower meadows and pocket prairies, and offer significant rebates to residents converting their front yards into native habitats. It is so impactful when the community plants the plants themselves, so much healing and rebuilding of broken or strained relationships.
