I once rode X2 for eight times in a row, no fast pass or nothing, just staying on the ride without having to get up. My legs felt so bruised because at the last raven turn your legs get smashed high up and come really fast down into your hard seat. And yes your feet are dangling on this ride. And yes it feels like they commit assault EVERY TIME I RIDE THIS GODDAMN RIDE. But it’s still so fun, second on my list behind Fury 325

No one besides the people that design, maintain or operate rides knows the actual speeds a ride operates at. It's not just "cuz marketing." In design, you have your intended operating speed that the machine can run excluding external factors like weather or riders. For Kingda this was 128mph. Then there's the actual maximum speed that would overstress the system if ran. And finally a speed control subsystem is included that accounts for external factors and adjusts the speed to keep the overall design from being overstressed. Kingda typically ran full trains around 118mph to ensure safety and better maintenance. This wasn't known until after the ride had been marketed and opened. And no, changing the advertised speed afterward would not be "that easy" nor benefit anyone but enthusiasts because we the only ones that give a f*ck 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I went to the park twice this year but unfortunately Kingda Ka was closed both times, and I never got to ride it. It’s sad that I never got to experience a 120+ mile per hour hydraulic launch (I never rode dragster or formula rossa either), but hopefully the new ride will be a worthy replacement. Although, knowing six flags, the record will probably be something like “fastest reverse inversion on a multi launch coaster.”
