(maybe in the future videos) Would you please also briefly educate us how to prevent these problems? I guess not everyone is as DIY-capable as MaxFixIt, but many of us are able to perform some easy maintenance/preventative task. I live in rust belt, and I will spray a layer of lanolin-based oil under my car. Hopefully that can be a good practice of prevention.

The suggestions are much appreciated, and in fact I do plan to have a new series talking about tiers of DIY projects based on individual's mechanical level. It's just that I have too many other repair video footages to edit and never get a chance to do such "talk show". I guess "talk show" style videos are way more popular than actual repairs in the whole automobile genre, and maybe I should've done it sooner. Speaking of rust prevention, oil based coating is always good and proved to be effective, also as shown in the 3rd episodes of my rust removal/prevention series. I do it twice a year to all my vehicles, and other than that, I also apply WD-40 to rubber bushings/boots/joints and things like. It really doesn't add much more work, as I just do it during the oil change, which is also twice a year.

i guess spraying some white lithium could fix it from the beginning, then don't need to replace the shaft

It probably will help for sure, but the lower steering shaft is much worse the than the upper, I was concerned that it may not work as well as the upper just by white lithium

@@maxfixit_DIY 来报告进展,上周从EBAY买了副厂的CROSSMEMBER/ K FRAME,以及SWAY BAR LINK ,UNDER CONTROL ARM, INNER/ OUTER TIE ROD,找个熟悉的华人店,我给修车师傅当助手,花了6个小时,把方向机、排气管、后传动轴都拆掉,把UNDER CONTROL ARM/ TIE ROD/ SWAY BAR LINK都拿掉,把新的元宝梁装上去了,再逐一复原。上路发现方向总是偏,又做了四轮定位。现在车子的整个前悬挂系统都是新的,排气管本来就锈穿了,拆一下噪音更大,买个CEMENT糊上去就好了。现在车子感觉像新的一样,买配件大约1200加元,修车、四轮定位花了1300加元,费用肯定是超过了这辆22万公里的老车的市值了。从修车店回来,自己动手把两个前轮的刹车盘和刹车片都换了新的,打算再好好开几年,请问这种老车修理后上路,有什么要特别注意的吗?

@@isaacqin3385 恭喜恭喜!多谢你能follow up 价钱上差不多 换的配件也都合理 因为基本subframe锈烂了 control arm, sway bar link 肯定不会好。整个车主要的suspension基本都是新的了 开起来感觉肯定会更好 我觉得还要注意到的就是把车后部也做好除锈防锈 整个powertrain也多加养护 该换的油液都换了 让这车值得这次rebirth
