Many (most?) orchids sold here in southern Ontario, Canada are in ceramic pots without a hole in the bottom. I'm going to guess that the person asking about the holes in their pots are asking about this hole, not the side slits. My orchids were not doing well due to standing water in the bottom of the pot, even though they get almost no water. I drilled holes into the bottom and they are doing better.

Please be careful using h.peroxide instead will burn your orchids stems or other parts like roots also. Why do people advice the wrong thing or idea. Thanks goodness my orchids had survived but I loose some leaves and old viable roots.
