With my small experience with vandas I think they have sensitive roots in general, and whenever we make any changes (which include the change of environment and transport when we buy them) they have the tendency to lose the roots and grow new ones, so hopefully if your plant has no other issues she will grow new roots for you. I bought a mimi palmer last year and I just placed her with that small plastic basket they usually come with in a bigger pot with no substrate, and during the year she lost most of her existing roots and start growing new thicker ones, I think they adapt to a new environment by growing new roots. Her stem from the bottom dried up a little too so I cut it to shorten it and that stimulated her to push out a tiny keiki :) And now in spring she started growing a flower spike to my surprise, it's my very first vanda that hopefully will bloom for me :) Good luck with yours, I hope she'll grow new roots and won't loose other keikis.

If the nursery takes good care and root is healthy, not just newly imported vanda, the adaptation period is short and the vanda wont need to dry the root, however most of nursery want to quickly sell their newly imported vanda, therefore the plant is already experience long period of stressfull period. If you buy from the same climate as you are, the root growing will also takes almost directly

It takes real courage to show and admit our failures. Hope other experienced growers will share tips on how to avoid this kind of situation, and also how to manage if the roots do die off for some reason. Thank you for informative videos.

Thank you for sharing this story. I had a Mimi Palmer do the same thing shortly after I received it, but I didn’t coil the roots. In my case, I think it just got shocked from coming into a new growing environment. It’s been 2 years and still hasn’t filled in more roots, but it’s still alive.

Beautiful chocolate flowers !!!! We learn a lot from our mistakes and we all do them. It has happened to me too but the roots grew back, a whole new root system grew after that so I hope it will happen to your mimi palmer...

It's okay,we all learn from our mistakes. You may have broken roots when you transferred it to a bigger basket;when you coiled it's root system. Pathogens may have entered from those broken parts. It is a good Idea to sanitize it with hydrogen peroxide after the operation, spray it for at least 3x,letting it drain in between. Next time you do it,dont water for at least 3 days to give the cut wounds time to callouse over and naturally seals itself. Fungicides can also help at this time, although not a necessity at this time. Just make sure that broken/torn parts(roots specially)dries out and callouse over before watering.

Hi! Thanks for watching🤗 maybe because of Cold temp because most vandas love warm temp. Ive seen other growers taking their orchids indoors when temp drops

Cut the older part of the stem and see if it has fasarium, I fit does you will need to get ahead of the infection and cut it and hope for the best or dispose of the plant. I saved my mimi palmer that way. Roots that dont want to grow and losing leaves and keikies are some common symptoms.

I believe it has stem rot. It started from the bottom going up. You need to cut the stem from the bottom little by little until you find a good stem. Remove her also from the rain, just water her roots not the leaves. Maintain her leaves dry until she recover.

Sorry the sad story about this Vanda first do not cut any areal roots vanda should survive with there roots. And let it dry quickly because of the rain let it hang no basket for vanda
