Sorry, but Schumann wrote "Sempre marcatissimo" for Variation @7. This is not a delicate romance. Overall Mrs. Wang delivers quite a spectacular, brilliant and ultra-clean rendition, but my feeling is that it is not exactly in Schumann's style.

Variation 7 (which starts at 8' 43'')? You mean variation 8 (which starts at 8'50''). If we compare Yuja's interpretation with those of Pollini, Trifonov or Ashkenazy, it begins indeed much less “marcatissimo”. But she plays more and more energetically as she nears the end. Full of mystery at the beginning, the variation descends into drama. It's very Schumannesque, and not exactly a “delicate romance”. This gradual crescendo is, in my opinion, more expressive than a performance that stands from one end to the other in the 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑒. In fact, there's nothing in the score to indicate that you have to be constantly in the 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑒. What is marked are 𝑠𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑧𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑖. And Yuja respects them in her interpretation, which incidentally comes very close, for this variation, to Radu Lupu's. Anyway, thank you for your comment !

En entendant Yuja mon âme se repose en paix. L'entendre c'est comme être arrivé à bon port. Yuja est une belle personne qui parvient dans son jeu à exprimer à la fois l'intention du compositeur mais aussi ses propres états d'âme.

The recording quality is actually quite good: it captures Yuja's inimitable cantabile playing much better than some of her commercial recordings, which prioritize clarity. What this falls short on is the dynamic range (almost none), so the last pages suffers from restricted sonic impact: in the concert hall it almost sounds like an avalanche is set off.

Like her "Scarbo" or "Une barque sur l'ocean" she played this wonderful piece in the perfect way. "Clarté française", perfect technique and good taste. Together with Bach and Mozart Ravel was a composer with good taste- no tone too less, no tone too much. Yuja with her good taste is the perfect Ravel-player. ❤

I find this recording very special as it reveals a quality of Yuja Wang that I think has remained hidden until now. It seems to me as if she has experienced a mystical and mysterious musical sound world - a new dimension of depth, the expression of which in words could destroy what we have heard here. ..unusual for Yuja and yet very tasteful her outfit for this performance Thank you for the contribution and your accompanying explanation.

Without any qustion, YUJA "takes cake"as the world's " B E S T ". SO who says Asians are not superior to the "SCUM" of the WEST now hassling them in America. All that anti-Chinbese- started with the "Chinese Exclision Act" of 1882 (banning new immigrant Chinese)ad that wad after they finished building a railway though the mountains of California? (Racism is still "well and live? among American Southerners with theit ugly talk of the "SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN" (sounds like Putin's kids saying Russia will Rise Agaain---- or (OMG) "ADOLPH WILL RISE AGAIN" (blame the MAGA "nuts" in the U.S.Congress for THAT)!
