My canary was afraid of hands and fingers for 7-8 years. But when he could no longer fly and fell ill, I cared for him closely, and after that, he was never scared of our hands again. Sadly, he passed away yesterday because of Bornavirus. I couldn’t save him… and now I feel so empty and lost without him.

@@Samtaraki Hii! So sorry for the late reply. Are you certain its scaly feet? I know that some cream could help, but that can also damage the feathers of the bird (making them become unable to fly and keep themselves warm). My two male canaries take turns fighting and chasing each other. Although I bought a separate food bowl for each one, it has improved somewhat. But my idea would be if I brought in a third canary, a male one, would they stop fighting? Because I don't want a female because of eggs. And canaries are flock birds.
@LemonBirbs3 ай бұрын
@@milachan5770 if you add a third male the chance of them fighting is bigger due to their hormones (especially in summer they can become meanies). I would not add any birds to the flock until they are stable 💛 and adding another male can make the fighting worse. If you do want a bigger flock then I would advice adding females (but more females than males in a flock otherwise they can fight for the females). I'm caring for a baby house finch that's nest was attacked by a crow. This bird survived and is ok but the other baby birds got killed. My neighbor rescued him and she works gave him to me when he was 12 days old. This is day 33 and baby bird is doing well. At first I was feeding him every hour or two for 15 hours a day and keeping him warm and clean in a little box inside a small cage. I think he is about 33 days old today. A week ago I put him in a large budgie cage with seeds and greens which he pecks at and eats a little of-but he still wants to be fed. So I still feed him 7-8 times day. I let him fly free each day in a room. People on FB said I should have taken it to a bird rehabber. I know it is illegal to keep him but I am afraid he will not survive if I release him now. Can I buy a society finch from the pet store so this wild house finch can have a friend? Another you tuber hold me that a canary is better companion for this wild hand raised house finch than a society finch. What do you think? Yet another KZbinr said canaries are solitary birds so I am confused.
@LemonBirbs5 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking care of him! He would indeed have been better off with a wildlife rehabber (we have experience with keeping the animals wild and not get used to us, so they can be reintroduced into nature, and we have been trained in their diet, lifestyle, behaviour and stuff like that for optimal chances). However, that's not the case now, but maybe something to think about when you find another small birdy! 💛 For now, I think it's best to try and give him less feedings a day to stimulate him eating on his own more 😄 I also think that he is indeed not suitable to be released into nature now (but you could always call a local wildlife rehabber for advice), however I am uncertain of which bird species would be a better fit due to most species having their own language (I always make the comparison between someone speaking your own language and someone who speaks another language which you don't understand). Another house finch would be the best fit, maybe you could make a public post in hope someone else somehow also has a handraised house finch unable to be reintroduced into nature? Also canaries are a bit of both, solitary and group birds 😂 it depends on each individual as some prefer to be on their own, but most prefer conspecifics (I also have seen wild canary flocks foraging and sleeping together) 💛 One of my dear friends in Australia also has house finches (they legally can't be reintroduced into nature in her country) and I believe she mentioned the other day that the finches do not really make contact with the other birds residing at her sanctuary 😅 So I think the best option is hopefully finding another hand raised house finch unable for release or maybe a wildlife rehabber local to you can give advice on what to do (I am a wildlife rehabber in Netherland, but there could be different rules and regulations in each country so I am not sure what is possible for you) 💛 I hope I gave you enough information, but feel free to ask more if some is still not clear or if you want to know more! 😄💛 you could also message me via FaceBook or Instragram if that is easier (links to the accounts are in the description of the video)

That often depends on the diet people provide them 😄 a lot of people in different countries are not able to get the greens that would provide the protein, or do not feel like chopping up greens to provide to their birds 😅 in that case a package of eggfood from the pet store is the best option to provide protein to your birds 💛

Do you know what causes the diarrhea? As you could "fight" the symptoms but they will come back just as fast if the cause is not found 😅 If not then I have a few questions to maybe help getting to the cause of it 😄 What are your canaries their diet looking like? Mostly seeds, or also vegetables and fruits, what kind of vegetables and fruits and how often? Is it possible they are sitting in a draft? What does their overal behaviour look like? Did they become less active when the diarrhea started or are there no differences in behaviour? Are you sure its diarrhea and not polyura (and increase of the urine in the droppings)? And what does the colour of the dropping look like and does it smell? If you want you can dm me on either Facebook or Instagram and send a photo of the droppings, that way I can help you a bit better and maybe see if I recognise the issue in the droppings 😄

What different veggies and fruits should I give my 4 canaries? I was told to not give any carrots bc it apparently makes cataracts form faster (one of them is blind in one eye from cataracts) and not too much sugar (like apples, other fruits, fruitblend pellets) too because she is also overweight. one is underweight so we need to give her favorite food more (apples). I’m not sure what I should introduce to make their diet better, they all live in the same cage

Hi, yes he started moulting around Christmas. Lost all but 2 tail feathers and could'nt fly at all to go with the not singing as well. This one is a rather large plain head gloster with lots of puffy feathers so maybe that's a reason for the long moult. I've read it could take up to 12 weeks but this one's been a bit longer. I do play music and canary videos so maybe that will stimutae him. At the moment it does try to sing but just a little bit . He has started to fly again but not like before. Maybe in a bit more time.
