It REALLY IS most likely just an error with the writing but I just imagine it to be the fact of how even if you suppress your emotions, they'll leak out somehow. Just not at the capacity they usually are at?

I think another important thing to consider with Embarrassment is that in the first film when we see her feel embarrassed it’s in the context of her parents acting corny, while in the second film when Embarrassment is driving is in the context of extreme self awareness. I also believe the real reason these emotions show up in Riley’s head later is because they previously didn’t have a strong role to play. They existed but not at the point where they could have enough power to seriously influence her behavior yk.

Joy was so annoying the entire movie, only in the end I liked her more, she embodies the toxic positivity

My thoughts are that because the former emotions already gave her a lot of memories, she could easily somewhat reproduce them without them being necessarily there. Something like them using the Tridents commercial happy memory when Joy and Sadness were out in the first movie. Even so, most of her actions during the movie were driven by the expectations given by both Anxiety and Envy. But I get what you meant here.

This is what the first inside out needed. Riley seemed more like a robot instead of a character on her own and making it so that she can choose which emotions she wants to feel makes her feel like less of a robot

I’m pretty sure it’s because the Emotions are meant to be just the Voices of Emotion, but in these instances it’s just Riley feeling the emotions on her Own

They can try to give you many justifications, but under the concept of personified emotions it doesn't make sense that a single emotion is able to imitate and even replace the others, from the first movie we saw that no emotion can imitate another because that would be a total failure, so this is a writing error in every rule, it also doesn't make sense that an "anxious laugh" or an "anxious frustration" is possible without the basic emotions joy and sadness, that is, Anxiety should only be able to cause pure anxiety and nothing else, only when it acts together with joy could it cause anxious laughter, and in fact it is what we see in the first movie with the compound emotions, joy can only cause joy but if you combine it with sadness it can cause melancholy, the logical thing would be that all those forms of anxiety are only possible when the other emotions also intervene but I suppose the writers ran out of ideas to make the plot work, although I liked the concept of "repressing emotions" they didn't execute it very good.

i noticed the joy emotion. i told my family as we were leaving the theater, that riley was genuinely smiling at some point during the movie. they thought i meant when she was nervously smiling with the others, but no, 0:08-0:11 were in my mind. i love this movie too, btw. here's a question: if there is a plot hole that actually breaks the movie, can you still find it in yourself to enjoy the film? i don't know, in the first movie it said "emotions can't quit" even though joy and sadness were sucked out for example. i still like that movie, but ever since i noticed that hole, i can't see it as perfection anymore.

I prefer Nostalgia being portrayed as Joy x Sadness than the character shown in the second movie. And I would say Ennui would be better as apathy rather than boredom, like that feeling that you are aware of something but you simply don't care. And well, I think Disgust was already a good portrayer of sarcasm tbh. I think of Anxiety as a physical extension of fear's worst characteristics. Embarrassment himself could be a separate emotion but it is truth that it could easily be a combo of disgust and fear. As for Envy, I think she can also be her own character although pretty unused. I loved the second movie, but it is true that it has its inconsistencies with the first one, which I say, is the best pixar movie so far 💛💙💜💚❤️🧡💗💙🤍

While this movie is my favorite of the year so far (I might be biased bc Inside Out is my favorite Pixar movie but who knows 🤷‍♀️), I do have to admit that sometimes it's unclear just how the whole "emotions controlling Riley" thing actually works. Like, sometimes Riley acts against what Anxiety tells her to do (like when she hesitated before sneaking off to check the coach lady's notebook) Though that might just be an issue with the first movie that carried over to the second. But still! I love Inside Out and the sequel, but yknow it's always good to be critical of the things you enjoy. I'm not a fan of mindlessly consuming media.
