I am at a loss for words... Immensely honored to be included in your list, and will never able to thank you enough for the kind words! It's a huge thrill to see my name alongside those like Nomakills, Fish and the GOAT Aaron Rash. Those are channels I've been following for a long time and draw inspiration from. I have always loved your channel and history videos as well!! Long live the nerdy & amazing Nirvana gearhead community 🎸

Alot of people say the strat was only widely used only cause they were the easiest to find left handed. I think there's some truth to that, but kurt he really liked strats too.

8:27 that's the "Natural" Univox Hi-Flier Phase 3 that Kurt used Black and Red Spray Paint on the front of the body to make it look Sunburst and had some Red on the top of the Headstock, but left the back the Original Natural Finish, and was Smashed 45 minutes away from my house. on July 13, 1989 Maxwell's Hoboken NJ.

Kurdt used this pedal. I was in the front row during a St. Paul Minnesota show and I saw him kick it on many times. One time he kicked it on then stomped on it again and again in anger.

The hair theory & stickers about Kurt at 4:32 is really stupid. If the picture from the house party is from March, and the GESSCO picture is from April, that’s way more than enough time to simply get a haircut. If I know enough about Cobain, he was definitely a guy who loved putting stickers on his guitar. That’s just me though.

Many years ago I got a really good Grunge tone with a Metal Zone by simply cutting the middle to 0 and the mid freq to max, so the pedal didn´t had that nasal sound that the Metal Zone is infamous for having, the highs and low usually depended on the amp and the environment and same with the distortion That simple trick is really good for Nirvana or any other grunge band from the 90s tone, it sounded really good for a Live at Reading tone for reference
@idiotwithaguitar34 ай бұрын
Sorry for the 2 month late reply but how did you put the mid to 0? and what is your high and low settings?
@ricardog.s25054 ай бұрын
@@idiotwithaguitar3 I don't own a Metal Zone anymore since at least 2017, but to set the mids to 0 you just have to put the small mids knob to 0 because what that knob actually does is BOOST your current mids (same with Low ands Highs) so if you set it to 0 you will have your regular mids from your amp, mid freq (big mids knob) is kind of like a "presence" knob and I maxed that out Lows and highs varied, but usually I had not too much lows and not too much highs, sometimes they were at the middle

This pedal is polarizing for a lot of reasons. But sonically live, this pedal was used to great effect during the height of their powers.

I’ve been playing since 1986 & mostly in “Alternative” bands. I’ve been all over the place, but have yet to play through this pedal. I’m not even sure I’ve been in the same room with one, or have seen a demo in a store. It’s the day after Christmas 2023, and I’m watching pedal-videos. I just randomly clicked this & really enjoyed it. I’m going to go buy one on Reverb now. 🤘🏻

I love the Vandalism Strat, but my favorites have always been his Univox's. Not sure if it's because the early music speaks to me more, or if it's the super unique shape of the guitar that resonates because he brought those body styles into my awareness, but they have always been my favorite Nirvana guitars.

Skystang 3 was his home guitar of the ones Scott Zimmerman made for Kurt. It was definitely played. I asked Lanegan about that guitar. knew musicians in town and am a guitar player. Good observation on the slider switches. I'd assume he played it pretty gently vs onstage. I got to see them with 3 different drummers (Chad, Dale on a very short tour while opening for Sonic Youth and Dave). Every incarnation of the band was slightly different. Dave was the pro and hardest hitting. Chad had a lot of creative swing. Dale was, in my opinion, the absolute best drummer they had in studio and live. he was amazing. I saw Dale on a tour with Redd Kross a few years ago. I actually wore the circles sub pop shirt i bought that night. What kinda shocked me was that when Dale played guitar I was brought back to garage jams of my teens. Sonically, my brain went to the bleach era. It was his own of course and not an imitation of KC but the vibe was there. The Grays Harbour vibe came out. Sorry for being lengthy. When Dale played that show with them it was "hometown ethereal" or something. If you can relate, you could feel it was 3 guys who lived similar lives and who grew musically together in the development years. If someone at that particular show had said " these guys used to basement jam together " you'd easily think " oh yeah, for sure they did. so obvious". find a show on youtube with dale playing drums. i think there are a couple. after a listen or two, you might hear a different cohesion of the band. more natural maybe.

After a life long love of this bands sound I finally broke down and bout a new Fender offset series player mustang in sonic blue, it very closely matches the blue of sky stang one. Never thought I'd own a mustang let alone one in such a close color to Kurt's. Now if I can get my hands on a Gibson RD artist bass in Ebony my life would be complete.

Dude, i dont want to bitch around, but all 3 pedals were set up wrong. The DS2 is the right choice but you need much more treble. Maybe on the DS1 the tone knob at 10h is ok... metalzone is too much gain and too much treble and the Grunge has way to much mids dialed in. And the katana, what should i say about that thing, sounds dead and dull. Get a tube amp and you will never go back. You could be me 10 years ago. Have a nice journey bro.
