Been loving all the awesome videos you've been putting out lately dude! While Lomic was definitely the best in the game, of the currently available options you showed I would try the AllParts pickguard. But I was impressed with how good the AliExpress guard looked on your mustang, once your pickups are white it'll be a deadringer for Roseland. Looking forward to seeing how this build turns out!

Thanks! I agree. I think I may grab that allparts guard too! I can use the pearl for another project. I'll try not to use screen shots often of your stuff. I just felt like those underneath bridge plate shots can really give someone direction on what to do. That budget stang was cool!

So cool.. got a sonic grey bullet mustang that I want to transform to a somewhat Skystang look, I unfortunately purchased the wrong pickgaurd as was unsure the red pearl was too red and went tortoise shell, big mistake as very brown. Think will try for the red pearl now seeing yours. Plan to paint the body too Just finished my Strat Jr into Vandalism, it's so cool and compact. Strat's so much easier and more affordable to create and get that Cobain vibe. I have now a K Strat, 2 Vandalism and a vintage white Fujigen. You got great videos and content, thanks

@loungeact12123 күн бұрын
Yeah I hear that I was looking for examples for this video, very tough to find. There's a MG 73 with white stripe on reverb for around 975 I think but it does have some decent fret wear. I think it's gotta be shipped from Japan too.
@slothmag3 күн бұрын
@@loungeact1212 Yea, but theres no problem shipping from Japan. I sort of gave up on my MG Roseland project and instead got an Ocean Turquoise MG73 comp matching headstock last year from Japan, 2012 -still in the factory box, pretty sweet. The japanese btw have lots of FSR stuff that never leaves Japan unless it is specially exported. Special colors, pickups etc. Anyways at this point I am almost resorting to doing a "warmoth body + any ebay mustang neck" build.

Great video! I’m sure it’ll be a great guitar once finished. The Squier CV mustangs would be perfect if they had the body contours, not sure why that hasn’t been an added feature. MG-69s have gotten quite pricey in the past few years, especially the 90s models or any of the rarer finishes they did. There was a kid on here that posted a video a few months back where he got a Q serial MG-69 (same as Kurts) and paid a ridiculous amount for it. Talking multiple thousands here, which may have been worth it except it seemed to have a really poorly done refinish and fake pickguard which is a huge shame. Pickford Guards definitely has the most accurate Cobain replica guards you can buy in my opinion. Lomic’s were nice and had good patterns but the top finish often had a ‘orange peel’ or unevenness to the surface whereas Pickfords are glassy smooth like the original 60s / 90s guards.

@@loungeact1212 Thanks! Yes they are pretty rare from what I have been told. It’s an MG69-85CO, most likely a 2006. From what i understand it’s more common to find MG-73’s in the OTM finish

All of this is incredible info, you have a great channel and I really appreciate your commitment to providing all information. Also it’s a very minor detail and I’m sure you’ve had it pointed out, but that vibrato tailpiece is actually Mosrite designed and not a Bigsby. Great set of videos, should definitely make this a series. Cobain tax is definitely a thing, just look at the prices on original Polychorus / Echoflanger pedals for example. People often part out guitars to get away with charging slightly more so I’d imagine that’s what’s happening there. I will admit I have definitely overpaid for a rare Phase 2 but I agree prices on Univox Hiflyer guitars are extortionate now

I'm not sure if this is true but it's a comment I found on groundguitar, but here's a possible reason for why the hotrails got replaced. "He changed the pickup during the time of star spangled banner. He replaced it because it has blood in it and smelled bad. So he modified it with a black instead of white Hotmail."

I really like your channel and your content. I think you, perhaps more than many nirvana ppl, would understand my point of view in thinking the obsessive desire to have (as precisely as possible) virtually the EXACT guitar as Kurt Cobain, or really anyone else, is just kinda creepy. At what point does it begin to get a little like the character from that Eminem song from the early 2000s where that fan seems kinda normal but then you get beyond the superficial base layer and the guy is fiendishly whackin his gherkin dreamin about being the guy's lover. Be inspired by the guy. Be inspired by how he appeared to shop for music shit. Be inspired to find your own version of a bastardized student model, or maybe a one-time mass production guitar, maybe one that not every single person has, that no other famous player has sent the price skyrocketing because they own one, and make your own way under your own steam. Honestly, the modern equivalent of the "grunge guitar" would probably be an early 2000s higher-end First Act POS. One made of poplar or something, one with decent shit but yet that nobody wants because the name First Act screams 'BEGINNER.' Lol. Maybe a modern version of a grunge guitar would be like. Idk. Godin guitars from the early-mid 00s.

Those post covid tourists that pay 1500+ for those cheaply made univox hi flyers that worthed 150$ ten years ago, they are asking for it… I understand the scalpers, if people are willing to pay ridiculous prices, why bother… i mean there’s a dude online selling 600€ vandalism strat copies made out of 90€ harley bentons… 600€ sigma d18 copies for 3500€, the price of a real Martin D18. But i suppose it’s going to last for a few more years, and after that it will be like in the 00s, no one will want mustangs and jags, and you will find them used for cheap again.

I used to own a new and used guitar stor in the late 90s/early 2000s and we got the original Fender Jagstangs and Vista series (Venus, Super Sonic, Music Master Bass, jag master) They were totally foverlooked for the most part but were awesome and def ahead of their time. They were high end Squiers essentially in cool vintage colors. Speaking of great vintage colors… This Jagstang is doing the Sonic blue yellowing to a daphne look. The 1990s Jagstangs were also built in the Japanese custom shop, like the vista series, I believe. So, not only better quality but an older guitar is naturally going to be more resonant due to water molecules in the wood evaporating, leaving tiny holes which act overall like resonating chambers. New, kiln dried wood is not devoid of water. It is a quick process used to rush wood into production so it a corner cutting process that overall leaves a lot of room for the wood to age and dry out over the years. A 30 year old guitar will always sound better than a new one w the exact same hardware, pickups etc. if you just want a new guitar that has only been yours then buy the new one. If you want a bit cheaper, aged and worn guitar you’ll come out a head sonically. The new ones are built in Mexico which is where the Cobain Jag is made along with many of the artist signature guitars like the Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster etc. these guitars are rumored to use American bodies and necks which are imported to Mexico for assembly but I’m not 100% on that. I can say I’ve owned both the Cobain jag and the TVL JM and they were solid very American feeling Fender guitars…
