The Hi Flier at 9:46 was not the HSB music video one. It has a phase 3 style pickguard, look at the placement of the knobs. The HSB video guitar has regular Phase 4 knob spacing. This means he had 2 white phase 4s, the HSB one was smashed. It's strange that one has a phase 3 pickguard.

@loungeact1212 One more thing I noticed. The Hi Flier at 8:13 has a different neck pickup. It looks like an ordinary cream humbucker rather than a univox humbucker. Maybe that neck pickup was put in the Hi Flier at 8:03? Just my speculation. There's also a few pictures of Courtney playing the nature phase 4 from 8:21 live at a Hole show.

In '89 I was going by a old moss covered grange hall south of Oly and saw a make shift Show sign. Pulled in and everyone looked very hippy, and many barefooted. It was Mudhoney. lol then a few months later saw Kurt n Krist's first show with Dave at the Surf Club.

Univox Hi Fliers clearly were like a "happy place I can always return" for Kurt, they were his first real guitars growing up and starting his musical career and even after Nirvana became big he still wanted to own at least one, and even more poetic is the fact that his first recordings with Nirvana and his last session both have him playing a Hi Flier

Correct me if I’m wrong but to me this guitar is his most iconic guitar. He had bought them most and played them consistently through his career. Great vid!
@loungeact12122 ай бұрын
Yep you are right. He played them a bunch but not so much during the fall 91 winter 92 when all eyes were on them when they blew up big.

YaY!!! Finally Part 2 ... Ive been waiting for this... I love Univox Hi-Fliers they are hands down my Favorite Guitars ever made and I loved them way before I knew Cobain ever played them, I remember seeing a White Univox Hi-Flier Phase 3 Bass in this little dinky mom and pop shoe size music shop and I fell In love with the Shape of the Body and Neck/Headstock, It just looked so Awesome .... That was around 1998/1999 when I first saw one and heard about them and when I began playing guitar in December 2002, I been wanting all 4 Phases of the Univox Hi-Fliers and multiple copies.... But jeez the prices of these are like 10x more then what they cost back in the 90s.

@@loungeact1212 I only own a Univox Hi-Flier Phase 3 Sunburst (Basically the Exact model Kurt first Used from 1985 to October 30, 1988) but mine was heavily modified from its original owner from some Portland, OR punk band which I bought for $90 (It had the Original Univox Hi-Flier Phase 3 Neck Humbucker but the Bridge is a 1980s Black Gotoh Humbucker), and the Original Univox Hi-Flier Toggle Switch and Pots (Volume, Tone, Input Jack) and Vol/Tone Knobs everything else was modified (even has a mini black toggle switch which is next to the original Univox Hi-Flier Toggle Switch which the original owner had set up like Mustang Slider Switches) but after a year or 2 the Original Univox Neck Humbucker died (I need to get It rewound), so I have a Vintage Black DiMarzio Tone Zone Bridge Humbucker In the Neck Position. and this horrible repair shop removed the Original Univox Hi-Flier Toggle Switch and Pots and replaced them with a Gibson Style 3-way Toggle Switch and Bourns 500K Pots... And Turned the Mini toggle Into a Kill Switch... (And I personally HATE Kill Switches) So I want to get It disconnected and rewired back to how the original owner had it wired, And Debating weather or Not If I should replace the Gibson Toggle Switch back to Its Original Univox Hi-Flier Toggle Switch and Bourns 500K Pots to the Original Univox Hi-Flier Pots.... So I basically have a Frankenstein Univox Hi-Flier which I nickname "Frankenvox". But the Univox Hi-Flier Custom Phase I with the Earnie Bailey Mods I want that guitar since 2003, and I want all the 4 Phases and Multiple copies of each Phase, Instead being an Old lady with a Bunch of Cats... I want to be an Old Man with a Bunch of Univox Hi-Fliers. 😊

I'm pretty sure it was the phase 2 sunburst with the white pickguard that was indeed brought to pachyderm for in utero because the same guitar can be seen in newly released roseland ballroom pictures after that session with the p90 in the bridge still and aaron rash was able to very closely recreate the in utero clean tone for a few songs with a hi flier with a stock p90 in the bridge

Anyone else reacting to the blue right handed jag-stang? Rumor always was that he never recieved it
@rychcorporhate4 ай бұрын
Kurt had the Sonic Blue Jag-Stang which he got In late November 1993 and used It on some shows In December 1993, but there were some things he didn't like about it so he had Earnie Bailey basically do the exact same Mods to the Jag-Stang that Earnie Bailey did to the 2 Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red Mustangs. And Kurt used the Sonic Blue Jag-Stang more on the In Utero European Tour (February 6 - March 1, 1994). Kurt Never received the Fiesta Red Jag-Stang as he passed away when they were about to Send it to him...

Before the October 30, 1992 Buenos Aires Argentina show Kurt used the Univox Hi-Flier Custom Phase I on October 25-26, 1992 at Word of Mouth, Seattle WA with Jack Endino for Abandon In Utero demos which were all Instrumental except for "Rape Me" which Kurt sang with Frances on his Lap, which is on the With the Lights Out Boxset, Disc 3. The other tracks were released on the 20th Anniversary of In Utero boxset (Minus "Frances Farmer" as that version is from the April 1992 Laundry Room Studio Sessions).
