Brilliant to see what can be achieved live using Ableton and Push 2. I've had one for years and hardly touched it....mainly because i'm a piano keyboard centric player, but I just love watching others that know how to use it and make it sing. Anyway, based on your video I'm going to make a concerted effort to learn the darned thing!🤣....as I'm missing out

Is there a way to play multiple instruments in one clip or on one track?

I could, for the most part, do your performance on my micro freak. At the very least, you could have done some serious pitch shifting/vibrato with a string/woodwind instrument. After all, those are the two elements that make music performance sound highly expressive, as though a human was playing. That is what MPE is trying to emulate, but you failed to show us that much, you know, as the title suggests.

Hi I love your channel and videos mostly those explaining Push 2 which is what I just got Here's the issue I'm having with my Push 2 When browsing, the menus/columns of anything (instruments, FX, plugins, samples, etc) don't pop/expand to the right automatically as they were doing before, now I have two buttons illuminated with arrows (< >) on the far right for scroll right or left, where before I had the upload option/button I have no idea why this is happening nor why has it changed or what did I do to change this setting but I can't find the way to get it back to the usual settings that everybody else seems to be having within the browser screen Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi Gus! Do you have Live 12? There are some updates to how Push works with Live 12 that have led to changes in how the library is shown. These changes are part of Ableton "moving" Push 2 onto a new communication standard with Ableton Live. I believe you can revert back to the previous setup if you prefer that.

Thanks for the amazing tip to save cpu. It works smoother now. I want to map an "Arrow" Midi button from the EPiano to "next instrument". So when I press the button in a live performance, ableton will automatically select the next instrument. (In your video example: If BBass is enabled and I press the button, ableton would jump to Bit Growl Bass) How can I do so? Thanks, Greetings

Thanks for this! Love your cinematography and musicianship. Too many videos out there of people just talking for an hour straight about push 3 without even making any music on it. Everyone so caught up in the materialistic hype and forgetting that it’s still US ARTISTS who make the music. A talented producer will make better music with a push 1 than a lousy producer on push 3. Cheers mate !

What version of Live (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) are you using?

This technique can be used with any version of Live. I think I was using Live 9 for this video (or possibly 10). The technique of making instrument and effect racks and using the chain selector works with Live intro, Standard and Suite.

This is great, you can also automate the chain selector too so when u change song your instrument sound is set up automatically. One thing is I can't figure out is u can't automate macro variations. So if u messe with all the dials and mess up the sound , I'm trying to find a way to get back to a default sound without manually clicking the macro variation.

Amazing tutorial! Do you know if there's a way to set up the instrument rack so that each chain responds to midi signals coming from different midi channels? One example would be to have your BBass only respond to midi signals from channel 1, Bit Growl Bass from channel 2 and BSeven Bass from channel 3

is it possible to do this automaticallty for an entire scene? Let's say each scene represents a different song, and each track is a verse/chorus. So song 1 will have different instruments than song 2.

It does however only work with instruments that don't have long release notes...since it chops of the ringing out notes once another stacked instrument is selected....

Indeed this happens if you map the power on/off button. A way around this is to make the range in which the power button stays on wider. Instead of for example 64 instruments with on/off ranges every two steps of the macro you use ten steps. Means there’s more going on cpu-wise but it’s a middle ground.

Hi Dave - the Push 3 Bible can be found here: wrkshp.thinkific.com/courses/Ableton-Push-3-Bible-Definitive-Guide This edition has completely new concepts such as interactive challenges, learning-playgrounds, a community and more. Everything else has been re-recorded, remade and restructured, integrating everything learned from the thousands of Push 2 Bible discussions. All in all it will be at least 50% bigger. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for letting me know. It is by far the cheapest course per hour of content but it’s also by every measure the biggest. Many courses are just 1-3 hours long and cost $125-249. Push 3 Bible is 12 hours long at the time of writing and will be around 20 when it’s done, split into easily digestible creativity focussed chapters. That doesn’t change the price however, but is part of the value calculation that I feel it’s perhaps important to highlight. But thanks for sharing your feedback all the same, much appreciated 🙏

Hello Nick! So at this stage it is over 40% complete, with the rest coming in the next weeks. I have also provided Push 2 Bible content for missing topics as a temporary measure. I predict that by the end the course will be a quite a lot bigger than 15 hours, but this is a safe estimate for now. Hi Nick, thanks for writing here and letting me know this, being honest and direct about this is appreciated. I am aware that the course has an initial investment which is significant. That said the course is also (as of today, and in my opinion) the best value course there is, I'll explain my logic here as I feel it's worth doing so. The Push 3 Bible is the biggest course out there by a long, long (long) way. There are other courses out there which are an hour or three long, and these cost around $120-250. They are around $100 per hour basically. The Push 3 Bible will be at least 15 hours long, and per hour will cost closer to $25, even at full price. This is just the simplest calculation of course, and ignores that the course I've built has other advantages: I've been teaching Push for ten years, both for Ableton themselves and at private schools. Push is my only instrument and only focus. It's also built on everything learned from the Push 2 Bible, which has had amazing reviews and this builds on that and takes it further. Push 3 Bible uses the absolute highest quality video workflows (up to 6 cameras simultaneously - this is expensive to set up), offers searchable subtitles (unique), its own community (unique), integrated support (again unique) and that's just the start. I could go on an on. What I've built is the result of wanting to make the absolute best experience I can. This takes an insane amount of time and investment, and as such in order to support that it also costs a significant amount in return. But, I hope and believe that it's the best experience out there. Finally, I don't want anybody buying something they don't need, and which is why there's a refund guarantee (please see the WRKSHP site for info on that) so that you can decide if the above is true. I absolutely accept that it's a significant sum. But buying something like Push 3 and not knowing the depth of what it can do (and what it can't) is also a choice that has costs. Time is precious, hard-won insight is as well. I hope that the above makes some sense. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, and don't hesitate to get in touch via email (see the contact page on WRKSHP dot eu). Andri

Hi Nick, I bought Andri’s Push 2 course when it came out, now have the Push 3 and also got his P3 course. Have to say they are fantastic courses, cover lots of ground, and each has a supportive community too. His courses are well worth the investment, in my opinion. You can waste a lot of time watching other You Tube videos, or go with a detailed and structured approach that Andri provides. I don’t get anything by writing this, but as a happy customer just wanted to say I highly recommend his P3 course!
