i know you aren't gonna respond to this but im really wondering how you get that tone on the axe fx ultra, i have an axe fx ultra and i've been wanting a rhythm and lead tone like that.
@DavidEvangelistaMusicАй бұрын
Hi there. Just happened to see this comment so I'll respond and hopefully it helps you or anyone reading this. I patched that tone a while ago so I don't remember exactly what it had, but I'll give you some general guidelines of what I've found useful over the years. For me usually when it comes to patch building, I use a "less is more" approach: I tend to get better results when not using too many blocks and effects. I usually only use the following: drive->amp->cab (or no cab if using a real cab and have the cab sim off)->parametric eq->noise gate. Sometimes I might add another noise gate earlier in the signal also to tighten things up. When I tweak my tones I always try to think of "gain staging": managing the levels of the signal as it travels from block to block, since the way that the level of the signal is modified in an earlier block often affects how a later block reacts. A good concrete example of this is how the level of the drive block will affect how the amp block "reacts". Increasing the level of a drive block will increase the level of the frequencies that the drive block focuses on to distort earlier. What does this achieve? First of all, the amp will "require less gain" on the gain knob to achieve the "same amount of overall distortion". But also, the amp will react differently than if the amp gain knob alone had been used to achieve that "same amount of gain", because certain frequencies were boosted to distort earlier while others were not. With this in mind, choosing a different drive block can target different frequencies. You can therefore experiment with different drive types to see what sound and tone reaction you like. Hopefully I am explaining this in a way that is not too confusing. In fact, I believe Dimebag used an EQ at the beginning of his chain for this reason, but a lot of people use tube screamers or other OD drives for a similar result. Even using different guitars with varying output levels can affect the same tone patch because of how levels affect elements of the chain. So whenever making a change in a block in the chain, I find it important to be aware of how levels will affect the following blocks. In fact, I find this "gain staging" concept also very important for sound engineering and mixing in general. So in summary: I like to keep patches simple in terms of the blocks used and avoid fancy combinations. I experiment while listening and I try to pay attention to how my changes affect the tone. I also try to keep in mind that a huge part of my tone comes from doing my best to play with correct technique to get the desired sound (picking hard but staying relaxed, left and right hand precision, muting unwanted string noise, etc.). I always pay attention to the interplay between the tone and how my playing affect each other. I hope this helps and I wish you luck and enjoyment in your tone quest with your axe-fx.

🎸😞 Saludos! 😎🤘💯

This is fantastic, my man. What a great show of respect to Dime. You're a great player. Thank you for all the work you put into this. Dime's technique and musicality were so unique, I think it takes someone special to recreate his material, and you definitely have it.
