I ONCE DESTROYED AN UNDERGROUND YELLOW JACKET HIVE. All I did was fill a bucket with dirt, quickly walk by the hole, and dump the dirt over the hole. Essentially burrying the hive, making it impossible for those inside to get out of those outside to get in. Several wasps flew around attempting to find a way in, but to no avail. Within a couple hours, there wasn't a hint of wasps to be found. I let the dirt pile stay for the next few weeks.

I’ve seen things like you described work before. When a nest is in the ground out in a yard, it’s much easier to be creative or get rid of it yourself. Many people are scared and/or allergic to stinging insects, which is why they call us to deal with it.

My neighbor and I had one and they built an entrance and exit I guess. Yeah, cutting the grass wasn’t the best but spraying only one end was definitely worse.

Multiple entrances start to pop up later in the season as the colony size increases. They do this for efficiency sake, similar to adding another airport terminal for more traffic.

Gordian worm otherwise known as a horse hair worm, their must be water near by as the worm can control the hosts behaviour and make them walk to to water, so that the parasite worm can complete it's life cycle, some insects survive being infected by them which is crazy.
@shipleypestsolutions5 күн бұрын
Awesome! I greatly appreciate this knowledge and learning about the overall ecosystem of the insects I interact with. I know very little about parasites, as I am not licensed, nor do I ever treat for them. There is water pretty close to where this wheel bug was at the time as well, so that makes sense!

Yeah and considering the size of the insects that this normally happens to, or at least the ones that more commonly have the lead role in videos like this. It’s terrifying to think of humans having something the size of your own leg trying to push and squirm its way out of an opening designed to keep that very similar thing from happening.

I have beehives in my yard, so I can’t use pesticides directly. I get a can of white meat chicken and mix a little Fipronil. I put the van in a cage made from chicken wire, and the wasps take the bait back to their nests and within a day or two, the nest is inactive. Since my bees aren’t drawn to meat, they don’t bother with the bait.
@shipleypestsolutions6 күн бұрын
Thats a great solution! I know some technicians that will bait food as well, according to labels, to accomplish the same and to minimize any collateral damage as well.

Desiccant? Diatomaceous Earth?
@shipleypestsolutions10 күн бұрын
Tempo dust. Not a “traditional” desiccant, in the sense that it draws out moisture, like diatomaceous earth but will cover most insects and function very similar.
