Great review! Had no idea til today that they released a GBA version, and what a job they managed to do!

I agree pretty much. I think if there was a difficulty between hero and normal it would have made the BS sections at least more tolerable.

While I'm interested in seeing what kind of gameplay changed they've brought to the Musou formula, a part of me feels irationally sad we play as General Generic instead of one of the actual officers, and the lack of the previous games exaggarations and excentricities. I get that toning it down and having a more serious approach is deliberate on their part, but I guess I'm just wondering how engaging the story really gets when they cut out all the over-the-top mannerisms. Are people discussing war strategies and such really fun and interesting on their own, or do I need stuff like grunting barbarian Wei Yan, or yellow turbans calling on the miiiight of the heavveeeennnnnnssss...sss in order to go along? Is there really something to CARE about in the plot, if it isn't gonna be fun and wacky, is what I wonder... but I'm not sure I can find an answer to that except for playing the game.

Pretty much solid review here. I admit though I kind of decided to pass when I heard the fact that you can't 100% customize your protagonist to be whoever you wish, but this of course isn't an empires version (though I miss DW4 as well that had you choose boy or girl originally as part of the game itself despite super-limited options yet excusable due to first-time debut). I do agree the gameplay did feel more solid though for the short time I took a go at the beta on PS5. Here's hoping that the next one will actually allow choice between boy or girl and more customization options, along with several of the fixes like you mentioned (such as adding in co-op. That was a huge miss on DW9-E) I admit DW4 was my starting point (parents actually picked it and surprised me too!) then I kind of went up from there, couldn't get everything but had a sharp eye on Empires series since I was able to fit myself into the game and interact with the peeps.

Oh hey! I have this on XB360, and the 4th version on PC. I didn't get that far... Way of the Samurai 3 I do know when I had my boy see the two guys, I had him say "I've been better..." but the blacked out ouchies.... also I got up to a point where he was faced by a girl but I decided to have him do the apologetic bow and she hesitated so much and just said "Nope, not fighting you, but with you for a while instead." (Edit: That WAS Momiji!) and where one guy was mean so I had tossed him off a ledge, but uh, he came back!?! (Yikes!) X'D ...all enemies at the time I just faced non-lethal.

@@Imposter001 Ah sorry for double-posting. Sadly this looks like the myth is busted; to my dismay, I only have a XB-One X (I'm unsure if it's PS4 vs PS5 quality in where you're saying "Series-X" is if I think I'm hearing right, the latest model of Xbox yet) and from my gander and updating just now, I don't see it possible as backwards compatible... perhaps the latest model stronger than mine could? Sorry I couldn't help efficiently enough 😢

This seems like an intriguing home-made horror-game, though just to clarify regarding the "lack of NPC's" part- does that mean story-stuff, like character interaction and dialogue etc, is very front and end-loaded with the middle being just the leads going through puzzles and monsters, or are there still stuff like that inbetween?
@InfiniteBacklogGameReviews17 күн бұрын
You do meet up with other NPCs throughout the game, a scene will play and once it ends, you may still be in the same room as them, but unable to interact with them.
@goranisacson250217 күн бұрын
I find it impressive that the game seems to have made the HD jump very well. Sure, it doesn't seem bigger than the previous WotS games, but it doesn't seem to have over-extended it's ambition, doesn't seem super-buggy, and looks as fun as previous PS2 games. Maintaining the same 'level' as previous games might be damning in some peoples eyes as lacking ambition, but I'm kinda glad it didn't go for broke just to break down.

Interesting to see this is like another but quite well-done 2D Resident Evil, except the fact like mentioned: you can't pause when under attack mostly due to when family might pester me when I have to be "somewhere else" could go pretty bad lol

@jasonblalock442924 күн бұрын
Yep, this is one of my favorite underrated series... Although I wasn't the biggest fan of WOTS3. It's just so dark and dour, and the first playthrough is really hard to get into due to the lack of any clear goals at all. More than the others, it feels like you have to play this one 2-3 times before it even starts to 'click.'
@ShadedOne24 күн бұрын
Thank you for covering this game. It was my first WOTS game. I enjoyed it so much I went for 100% completion(trophy) back in high school on summer break. I didn't know about the plus version until years later. I'd definitely purchase it again just for that version. I already own the vanilla version on xb360 and on PC. I have WOTS4 on PC but haven't finished it and it's in the back burner for now but it definitely was smoother in gameplay and graphics.

I've had the game for years on both PS3 and Steam but just never got around to playing it. Way of the Samurai 2 was a blast on the PS2 and I didn't almost everything you could in that game, so I'm glad WOTS3 is a step up from it! I didn't know Zaji was in the game! That's neat. Shinobido is also another of my faves on the PS2!

I like how the main character isn't a lawyer and so the game has to change the formula from what I'm used to with these "Ace Attourney-likes" or whatever we call them. Definitely caught my interest now! Though I also saw a fair few of the sprites seem like full 1:1 references to Phoenix Wright sprites, kinda curious if they'll end up matching the characters or if I'l only be able to see the Phoenix Wright characters they reference rather instead of the characters in this game.
@PaperCatGamesАй бұрын
Hello, dev here - May I ask which sprites you think are 1:1? Even if a few are similar, we did our best to make the game be it's own thing with the characters and poses.

Ernest Hunt has some Uncle Phoenix energy and I'm here for it. I already downloaded the demo but hadn't played it yet. The only faults listed here don't bug me too much. Controls and difficulty are the main thing, but if it carves a new niche, has a solid story and the developers are likely to make more fixes, I might just add it to my Winter purchases.
@PaperCatGamesАй бұрын
Hello, dev here - We do have plans for more updates in the future to fix some of the issues people to have. We can't fix everything, we will try to do as much as we can. We hope you enjoy the demo and if you do get the game, enjoy the game to the fullest!

@@PaperCatGamesHello devs, just saying I played the demo now and you guys really delivered on this one (I sent some feedback). The demo version of Case 1 was satisfying and hit all the right notes for me to that point. Most options seem accessible via mouse except self-voicing which is a nice addition for those who need it. Don't worry too much about not getting every little bug, you've made a great game from what I can tell. I'll be picking it up soon.

Thanks for the review, curious if you can choose your main protagonist to be boy or girl, but looking even at hints of your review here makes me think there's a chance of yes. Also 4:27 ...yeah I did that in another DQ game, and.... in just a cave-like area that was still in the open so oops! (got a booby-achievement on it too lol!) so I absolutely had to go to an open-space area outside (not even partially closed in) X'D

You can choose the main protagonist. It's one of the first options you get when you start a new game.

Man, DQ3 was such a great game. I absolutely love how it subverted so many RPG tropes. One of my favorites being Roma and the King side quest. This remake looks pretty great, although my biggest gripe is with that battle UI. You're right that it's a shame we didn't get the old UI they had in development. Even still, the new QoL features and the character customization make it a pretty good trade off. Great review as always! And thanks for have me in the crew for the GBC playthrough. I hope I kicked ass! lol

I liked the story, but the gameplay left a lot to be desired. It didn't help that allied AI was significantly less effective than enemy AI (this is especially noticeable in simulator mode) or that you were rarely equipped properly for the missions (you were nearly always doing minuscule damage to enemy when they could take you out completely in only a few hits). Most of the missions were so frustratingly difficult I just didn't bother unlocking everything and focused on just getting through the story regardless of how low my score was. Still, its the best Gundam game we've gotten recently.

Did not know the trainstation anomaly game dev also made (one of) the train-anomaly game, though I suppose there's in fact several of them so it's understandable I got some mixed up. Personally think this one looks a bit more interesting to me even if it's shorter since there seems to be more of a puzzle factor to it, rather than just observe and go back or forth... though the answer being given on the signs feels like a concession that ruins the experience. Question- are most of these anomaly-spotting games Japanese? I feel like this is a trend that we just haven't seen spread to western devs: we made jumpscare spooky mascot games, they make anomalies.... but we all have our own variant of low-budget horror games, and I think that's beautiful.
@InfiniteBacklogGameReviews2 ай бұрын
I singled out Shinkansen 0 for being the most similar to Platform 8. Chilla's Art specializes in horror games and coincidentally seeing a friend stream Shinkansen 0 is what prompted me to actually cover The Exit 8 and then this game. Some of the anomaly spotting games aren't restricted to just Japanese developers. Everloop which I referenced when doing The Exit 8 is from a Brazilian studio and The Street 10 despite being set in Japan is from a developer in Moldova. I'm on Observation Duty, one of the games that inspired the anomaly spotting genre is from a developer based in Finland. The Exit 8 certainly helped popularize it.

Out of curiosity, when the passerby starts chasing you will being caught reset the loop? Was kinda curious why you kept juking around the guy, inatead of just turning around to run like with the wall-textured man.

Quite an interesting little gem this is to know about, looking forward to seeing those later promised other games (at your own pace of course!) I really loved this game when I was a child. It's better than Zelda I, it picked the original formula and improved in almost every way, but it came 5 years later. I just think the last boss is too easy for the job to find him, but the rest is great. I passed a lot of time trying to figure out things since I'm not a native english speaker and this was a problem for this game back in the day.

LOL Sorry I have to laugh about it but when you called it out in "The Bad", the Aiming issue. See, I love Sega, grew up with it, and is one reason why I'm active in Phantasy Star Online 2 up to New Genesis, but whenever anyone goes out to ask about aiming.... ugh! I know in other games this happens as well, but never can I get out of a daily run on PSO2NGS even without saying "OMG Why am I aiming somewhere else instead of -at- my actual target!? Wtf is making me aim way over there or at the sky?!" which gets me in a LOT of trouble (especially bad and caused me a few friendships in the game when having to attempt ridiculously hard bosses but I'm aimed far away from where I was actually trying to hit! There's also several cases where it randomly tears away aiming and has me suddenly fumble butt-first right into a hazardous attack entirely against my evasion input. All this has even caused me 20% of deaths and failed runs! That's be 200 out of 1000 deaths!) Guess it's one flaw Sega has, sadly... but that doesn't change that I still stick with Sega!
