Hey davlav, thanks for your videos. They definitely help us newcomers to figure out this QC. I think maybe there's a bug in 3.0.0 if you feed a transparent blend from a freeze, you get garbled sound :( have you noticed that?

Quick question for anyone who has one, does the knob create a scratchy sound or any sound when turning it rapidly between settings on any of the 3 modes? I bought one a while back and it seemed a bit defective - was making unwanted noises as I switched between settings. - perhaps that one was a dud.

Great comparison! For me the plugin has been a game changer. Maybe it's just me, my ears and feel under my fingers but the Archetype: Plini X is the first time I thought ok, maybe I can go direct to board with no amp on stage. I am hoping they'll move priority of the Tone King plugin up a little bit. I can see where they are shooting for their main buyers which are heavier metal folks, but I think there's more than enough classic rock guys out there that would eat up some Tone King in a heartbeat.

I own plini, gojira, petrucci, and Wong (got them all before compatibility was announced, so I got lucky!). Just got a QC last month and now my personal priority would be buying ones that I can use on qc. I want the mateus asato. But it's not on the coming soon list, so I'm probably gonna be waiting a year or more to be able to use it on the qc. For me personally that's not worth it. I'm gonna wait until they announce an x that I really want and save it for that

Excellent video as usual! I guess I am the outlier here and like the captures. They sound similar to how an Imperial sounds in the room. That said, the captures do seem to have a low-end boom at 100-120Hz. In contrast, this sometimes makes the plugin seem anemic when put up against the amalgam. I don't know about you David, but I have been having to HPF a number of my amalgam IRs at 80-100 to make them sound correct. Is something weird going on with the IR loader on the QC? Would be curious if you did a quick A/B of the plugin vs captures with the same built in cab, *if the plugin and the QC share one that is!

I did this a while back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGa9Yoh_bsujgbc in general I prefer the DI captures. The captures with cabs from Amalgam get boomy on the low end like you said.

@dwaynedelario 9 күн бұрын
@@davlavmusic7070 Yes for sure, but even with the separate Amalgam IRs I get quite a big bass response sometimes. I'm gonna do a little test and run a DI capture through both the IR Loader and an external IR software and see if they sound different.

@@davlavmusic7070 Well this is weird... within the QC itself, if I load an Amalgam IR into the Mono Lite IR Loader, and zero the gain (for some reason it defaults to +3dB), it is 6dB louder than if I load the same IR into the Cab Block at unity gain. This could absolutely be influencing the gain staging in the QC preset vs the plugin, but who knows. I am going to bring this up on the NSDP forum and see what people have to say about the volume differences.

To my ears, other than the clean patch, I prefer the plugin as well. The clean patches sound pretty similar. The Edge sounds on the plugin sounds so much richer, including the delay sound. I'm not sure if you changed the effects at all between the different patches, but it's much creamier and fuller on the plug-in to me. The lead sound also sounds better on the plug-in for the most part, but the low notes are a bit flubby. Not as bad as one of the plugins you tested the other day that had a horrible flubby low end sound, but enough that it was not quite as appealing. The higher tones sounded pretty good however. Thanks for doing this comparison. I think you also said you had some 5150 captures. It might be interesting to see what you can do comparing plugin versions to the captures on that amp as well. I know you're not a high gain guy, but I would love to hear what you come up with.

Id always prefer the model (eg the plugin) over a capture. That said I don’t see the value for dollar on the Tone King plugin vs some of the other more feature rich plugins… heck even Morello has more features and a unique wah

I stumbled on this video....I'm a Fractal user that is QC curious (and use Tonex w/Amalgam captures on my backup rig). Another factor to me would be cost. The Neural plugins seem to be $100+ whereas the Amalgam captures run between $15 and $35. I can see the utility of having the plugin directly on the unit as a plus. There seems to be enough variety on the Amalgam packs to get you the tones you'd want. I can see Neural using unique effects in a plugin (e.g. Plini X) as a way of enticing people to buying them.

@@davlavmusic7070 if they’re user captures l, almost certainly they’re worse than what Neural or any company are going to do. So dual delay can be accomplished with this set up for anyone interested. I put both amps on the first row cab, chorus, dual delay, concert reverb on the second. I was also able to put the same compressor, gate, and a tube screamer. I think the ampero is just a little quirky when it comes to the signal chain flow.

Hey David... I am still somewhat new to this whole QC thing, but I am an experienced engineer and I agree on your assessments re: DI and IR. Btw, do you have any of the "Cab In The Room" IRs from Amalgam? Something seems off with those. Feels way too short to be a room sound. And it's super low level! Just reading that the QC truncates IRs to 21ms. That is a bummer.

Gojira has a whammy pedal that I think is a little better at doing the pitch effects I like than the one that’s currently in the QC. That was a main deciding factor for me.
