I find existing guides unhelpful. I'm looking for a step-by-step walkthrough, starting from creating a heading to establishing a navigation link. I prefer detailed guidance rather than a completed product that might give the impression of simplicity.

It seems like you skipped many steps. I can't even figure out how to load a feature class into my project. It looks like it loads but then nothing is listed under layers, and I can't make any buttons!

You only really need to enter the item ids for each table once in the beginning. It then calls those variables, so no need to replace the texts with the item ids when getting the content.
