@@CapAdGroup I've found that, too. Either I'd airbrush it on (you can see examples of that in my 30K Night Lords series) or experiment with diluting the paint and applying it in multiple coats.

I just painted my first model. I got to the druchi violet stage but as i was applying it i noticed the blue contrast paint started to come off. I think its because of the varnish layer. Have you encountered this before?

@CapAdGroup Sorry to hear about that. No, I've never had Contrast paint reactivating or chipping off (unless it wasn't properly dry). I'm not sure why that would be happening? I used the old version of shades (before they changed the formula), but that shouldn't make a difference, I would think... Maybe skip the varnish stage then, if you think that's the problem? The new Nuln Oil formula flows into the recesses quite well, so it's fine to use without gloss varnish I'd wager.

@Agh3Design Thanks! 👍 I'm sorry to hear about the sticky results. I haven't had that happen myself, but a quick Google makes it look like a common phenomenon. People seem to point to many reasons such as humidity, spray can solvents, improper shaking, improper cleaning, the material of the minis, the wrong type of varnish (ie for oil paints), etc. Some say that a new coat can help, and they swear by different brands (such as Testors Spray Lacquer) to be "saviours" of sticky surfaces. But personally, I have no experience in solving it...

@@KabinMiniatures I regret selling my high elves and Imperial Guard armies. Sold them both in 1998-99 when my interests changed in year 12. I bought Orcs and Goblins in 2000 though and I still have them. So I can at least see those paint jobs. Not quite as nostalgic as the first models I was painting in the 95. I’ll kill to get them back.

I totally understand! 😅 the only part I carved into was the inside of the legs, but only a little bit. The rest was all bending the resin into shape with heat. Nonetheless, it was a bit nerve-wracking doing it to such a rare model 😳

You can try doing a bit of layering on top of your slapchop to improve the colour gradations. That's what I'm planning to do after watching this video 😊

@bigtbigj3103 If you want to start a Heresy era Night Lords collection, that box has great value for sure. I think you should get the models you think look cool and have fun with them! It's your hobby and you choose how to enjoy it!

Also I have a idea what if for the next night lord thing you can make a titan that look like it part of the night lords like it has a bunch of skulls and human body parts maybe it even has a bat mask on it I’m kinda surprised no though about doing that ?

Go for it! You should paint them the way you think looks best 👍 I tried to mimic the look from the film. The practical Orcs had leather "pants" with smaller armour plates attached to the thighs. Some of the CGI Orcs had exposed legs instead of leather pants.

Hmmm, looking a bit closer at the reference pictures I gathered, I think you might be right! Each armour plate on the thighs seems to have a loose piece of leather/fabric underneath. Maybe I should go back and repaint those little bits? 😅

@@KabinMiniatures i also look in every movie frame all of them have either naked legs or a small piece of leather. Yeah i think the top part might be metal but the down one is definitely leather, it didn't make sense of 2 metal rubbing each other on leg. Like romans wear scarfs to protect the neck against the armour. Maybe you can brown those small bits. 😏 i will mine.

Looking more closely at the sculpt, those small bits underneath are irregular and torn, whereas the metal plates above are more "straight". Now I have to go back and paint those bits brown, or else they will haunt me 😅

Do you mean you've put them on a temporary base, and after the varnishing, you can't get them off?

Yeah a temporary bass and I can get them off it's just the bottom of the feet always gets ripped apart and I have to repair it ​@@KabinMiniatures

Yes, indeed! A filter over the whole thing at the end (quick), or just glazing each colour on more gradually (slow), would likely have made the transitions more smooth 👍

Hi, @owenlinford. Thanks for the lovely comment. 🥰 Sorry, but I'm really bad at explaining the technical stuff, but I'll try my best here. I started off with testing out different ratios of blue and yellow slime to get to a workable consistency of green stuff. I then worked with one small patch at a time, applying a thin layer of green stuff on the area of the figure I wanted to sculpt on. Then I quickly shaped some more of the green stuff to bulbs and spaghetti shaped ones and just tried to put them together into a somewhat organic looking cluster with the help of the tiniest ball tool I can find. I'm so sorry, kinda feels like I'm writing you up a pasta recipe rather than sculpting instructions. 😂🍝 Really excited to see what you come up with though. 💜🤗

I did this a few years ago, but from what I remember, the cleaning wasn't too bad. Assembly took a little time, as each joint in the legs is posable. I ended up drilling all of these and inserting brass rods through them. Then, I could move the legs about like a puppet until I found a good pose and glued each joint in place. So yeah, that took some time, but it's certainly not necessary to do that kind of thing.

The 30k pre-heresy armour is definitely cool 👍 but I prefer the red and silver from the John Blanche 2nd edition artwork 😎

I always just assumed post monarchia burning and calth they adopted that red and black because that’s how most of the art depicts them
