I am greatful for this video series <3 I am also a guitar player and I wondered there are many times where a harmonic is played before the actual pitch are these harmonics chosen i've noticed mostly they appear to be the 5th or octave below natural harmonics. I'm figuring out how to put that into my guitar phrasing make it more authentic. So my questions is do natural harmonics make up an integral part of japanese traditional music ? more as a written significance or part of a performative choice ? Thank you for your hard work and dedication !

@@chaiayling9831 First I thank you so much for your comment and thank you for your support. It’s comments like this that really makes me happy that I decided to put all this hard work in. The reason why you’re noticing these particular natural harmonics appear is because Japanese music tuning system is based on the Pythagorean tuning. Just as Chinese music is.

What length shakuhachi did you use? Can it be played on 1.8?
@TairyuShakuhachi9 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I used a 1.6. You could use a 1.8 and just have everything down a whole step. But then you couldn’t play along with the track. You could play all the same notes on the 1.8 but I don’t think it would sound nearly as good. A lot of the effects and colors and dynamic expressions come from specific fingerings that I’m using on this flute

Thank you for this video. This is a question I often ask myself. Another would be: by using another flute, for example longer or with a different mouthpiece, will I not lose the habit of the previous one? Should I continue by working on both simultaneously. To simplify, I have a 1.8 Yozan, for beginner, I would like to work with a 2.3 Yozan. Should I alternate? How? HELP 😂😊 🙏
@TairyuShakuhachi11 күн бұрын
You should alternate. It won't break habits you will readjust over time :-)

I was amazed when I walked on one of these in Japan= I thought they were a fairy tale from books on ninjas. Thing that struck me is that samurai on guard in these castles had to stand without moving ALL NIGHT in order to not wake up the house.
@TairyuShakuhachi11 күн бұрын
@@unnaturalselection8330 yeah that seems about right. If there were any guards, most of them would have been outside but it’s not impossible that there would have been people inside depending on the compound. That might be a really interesting video for the shogunate channel to do. I’ll let him know ;-)

The flute is called shakuhachi, it is from Japan. More specifically made by the renowned shokunin Yozan Hikichi.
