Ryan, I can't thank you enough for this series of videos. You have answered so many questions that I wasn't sure how to phrase when googling. You have an excellent teaching style, clear, succinct and demonstrative.

Tuba player who plays saxophone, saxophone is really good with articulation and different playing styles, we can play very short, accented, very fast and articulate, and very legato and melodic. Please use saxophones we want to play in the orchestra.

as a university pianist who has played a ton of mozart, you can really tell what kind of licks he likes to write cause he reuses them constantly, so the moment i see a mozarty looking rhythm or chord progression i get mozart ptsd

Plus you mentioned you go to half diminished scale for dark stuff I’m checking that one out For I did try out locrian loved it. Only thing is when I git back to the tonic chord scale I just played the minor and chucked the flat 5

12 I never understood how to even apply this four part chorale. Is this really necessary in this day and age, where you mostly don’t need individuated voicing? If you still think so, do you have a video on how to extend 4 parts to a whole orchestra or string, and just info on it in general?

Wait a second and think; you said - dorian starting on d is called d dorian but actually it is c-dorian with signature of c-major. D-dorian starts on E and it has f sharp and c sharp in its signature….it is the mode of d-major scale. One more for a good measure:::F-dorian starts on g and it has b flat in its signature, that’s why we musicians call it f-dorian. Conversely d-lydian starts on g and it has f sharp and c sharp while c-lydian starts on f and has no sharps or flats at its signature. Good luck….PRECISION is IMPORTANT

came for tip 12 but stayed for tip 28, 29, and 31. fr this was no filler, awesome to hear things I may have known technically but the context really helped connect the dots for me

Early pokemon was on limited voicebanks, so classical structure was an optimal composing style for the hardware.

A couple things that might help people too. If you can sing a major scale (in tune) on solfege, Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do. All you have to do is learn what resting tone goes with each tonality. Re to Re is Dorian, Mi to Mi is Phrygian, Fa to Fa is Lydian. Everything else stays the same just with a different resting tone. The other aspect which always gets lost is the characteristic chords that go with each tonality and how they relate to each other. Major and Minor are cousins with a I to V relationship, Dorian and Mixolydian are cousins with a I to VII relationship, Lydian and Phrygian are cousins with a I to II relationship. Locrian is on its own and doesn't need to be talked about. Major: I V IV Minor: i V iv Dorian: i VII IV Mixolydian: I VII IV Lydian: I II VII Phrygian: i ii VII Locrian: i (dim) vii ii
