Howdy. Back in the previous millennium, I worked as a cab driver in Longyearbyen. I had both the pleasure and misfortune of hiking to Grumant in summertime. A very wet, exhausting, but beautiful experience. In hindsight exposing ourselves to to all that freshwater, was a really recless idea, on account of the parasite. You refer to Grumant as a settlement, and in some way that is correct. It would probably be more accurate to call it a forced labour camp or prison. Thanks for the footage, it brought back great memories.

Thank you for the comment! Yeah, considering the terrain it was definitely a prison as the only good thing about it are the sunsets above the icecaps across the fjord. Hike is spectacular though in winter.

I guess it's because we can't get a gun in every candy store like it is in the US :) We need to pass psychological exam, shooting tests and it might take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. So we are not used to the guns :)
@ShaneHerrick3 жыл бұрын
@@ferryzet We need psychological exams here in the US... in my opinion... for more than just guns. I am in the state of Montana, very remote, not many people, so our gun owners are naturally more psychologically in tune with gun ownership and responsibilities. America's urban sprawls have serious psychological problems which are amplified by guns. I liked your video... very beautiful place. It is the home of the bears... and the humans are just misplaced visitors.

@@ShaneHerrick 100% agree with your last statement. As well as gun ownership in the remote areas, thank you for watching!

Woooow! Thanks for posting this tremendous effort! This one will be on my bucket list now. Please if possible give me some details. Which month did you do this hike, and how long did you walk from the base to the top? What was the average temperature (from the sound of your steps, it must have been below -20°C)? Absolutely amazing images, even though the clouds came in and blocked the view to Longyearbyen.
@ferryzet3 жыл бұрын
Hey, it was April 5th :) I think it was around -18C. It took me around 1.5 hours from base to top, but distance between Longyearbyen and the base is around 5KM. It was absolutely stunning, first part of April is best for Svalbard.

Hey the flag that they fly at the back? Is that like a unofficial Svalbard flag or something?
@basilopithecus4 жыл бұрын
That's the flag of the Faroe Islands. The captain of that ship used to be a whaler before he turned to Arctic tourism, so I guess he just kept his old flag.

Sniegas priminė cukraus pudrą :) O tavo drabužiai tokie ploni! Ir kaip nesušali?
@ferryzet4 жыл бұрын

Good & cool hike ;) Just wondering, if you would see any bear - are you allowed to shoot or just frighten it by your gun?
@ferryzet4 жыл бұрын
Shooting is allowed only as a last resort. We also did have a flare gun, so first we would try to scare it off with a flash bang and only if it would not work and bear would clearly charge at us - we would use a rifle.
