I hope someone teaches a class on your work, one day. I would take that class.

I’ve loved your work for at least a decade and a half, and treasure my copy of Rice Boy that you autographed and added a little doodle of Olga and Golgo. Since then I’ve snagged every book (and cassette! could there be another for 3rd Voice?) and am really happy to have the opportunity to support through the patreon! No need for extra bells and whistles for subscribers, in my opinion at least. I really look forward to 3rd Voice updates and wish only the best for you in the coming year. Thank you so much for sharing these vivid, gripping worlds. <3

Here's me just wanting to thank you for creating these beautifully estranged world while also harnessing the most endearing bits of character development and relationships between them. Thank you for putting it all out there and an extra thank you for keeping an independent website alive as well. I bought the one side project that you did do these years in support, as I don't like the Patreon thing too much personally and was amazed by "The Last Delivery" Cheers and here's to hoping you're not making one of those trips yourself, but that your books will be making these delivery trips into the world, be it next year of more years hence; no commitment to deadlines is necessary for that, you've long since shown your commitment past starting this. I'm glad to see you describing excitement and a kind of wonder at it still not being boring to work on.

Based on your current progress and amount of future "passages" that you have planned, it seems like 3rd Voice might end up being as long as Vattu? I don't remember well enough to your original video essays, but I thought you were hoping to keep this story shorter? I ain't complaining, mind you, I love long form stories and you always deliver. I just saw a kickstarter by Jeff Smith for a reprint for Bone, and it made me think how much of what I loved about that story and art is the same reason I love your work. Thank you for helping to keep independant comic art alive.
@AllenGrimm114516 күн бұрын
Vattu’s around 3.4 times the length of the First Passage, & Evan lists up to what will be Fifth Passage, with no indication of the story entering the endgame there-so unless future Passages become much shorter, 3rd Voice will be the longer of the two, and it won’t even be close!

great episode! I think there are definitely lots of dense, inexplicable complicated idiosyncratic games being made right now, you just have to avoid the x EXPLAINED youtube video cultures that crop up around them. I recommend "Almanac Of Girlswampwar" for something really fantastic and out there and pretty not well known

Great podcast! I always enjoy when I hear Meredith Gran talk about her art. I keep flipping back and forth between comic and game projects so that was an interesting part of the discussion I really thoguht was interesting. I hope one day, if you're every in the mood for another discussion with someone who made the transition from webcomics to narrative video games, you can get Abby Howard on the podcast!

Wow, what a fantastic interview! I haven't read TJ and Amal or Shot and Chaser, but I will def check them out now. The shout out to Comic Fury made me happy, too; it's much closer to having one's own website than Webtoons or Tapas and definitely does a better job of supporting artists. Also, fwiw, I'm a pretty new reader (I found Vattu right after it finished and have been along for the ride on 3rd Voice). I'm hooked and am trying to get my friends hooked, too!

This was FANTASTIC! Both Blue and Evan are some of the most thoughtful and articulate artists I know and their ability to explore their thoughts on the medium of comics is so powerful. I loved getting a chance to hear them talk, particularly about the history of webcomics. Great episode and I can’t wait to hear more!

I'm a big floppies buyer, at the comic store every week, and one of the things I've noticed is that fewer and fewer creators have personal or professional websites (or, if they have one, it hasn't been updated in 3+ years). I'll find an artist or writer that I deeply enjoy and try to find where they exist on the internet (mostly what I'm looking for is a bibliography that isn't from Wikipedia, a way to support their work, and/or whatever fun cool goodies you used to find in websites) and all they've got is a twitter, maybe an Instagram, and even more maybe a bluesky. I'm not on any of those platforms anymore and it has become so much more difficult to keep up with artists I am interested in, and the death of the personal/prof. website makes me sad

Would you mind checking the settings on Spotify? I think there's some setting that will let other podcast apps access the episodes. But right now the RSS feed comes back empty. No worries if it doesn't work out, I imagine Spotify probably doesn't make it easy. They're really trying to proprietize podcasts.

great talk! always interesting to see how people view making art. Ive been thinking about that kurt vonnigut quote a lot lately. And, also having read a biography of the Weavers (an old socialist folk band) called Wasnt That A Time recently, I feel it gave me a different perspective on it. It's not so much that art *cant* be effective at changing culture and politics, as much as it's ability to do so has been deliberately sabotaged by things like blacklists and just the basic need of people to make money to survive. still trying to figure out what to do with my own art though, which has still mostly up to this point been inane.

Oh hey, if it isn't two of my favoritest cartoonists! Incidentally Salem's definitely a cool place to visit, lots of genuinely cool historical sites mixed in with over-the-top kitsch-as-hell tourist traps... Was just there a couple years back while visiting family in the area and had a blast. Always found the strong new age/pagan presence there a little weird as the whole thing about the Salem trials is that there weren't any practicing witches there or anything particularly close - it was sheer hysteria, literally teen angst bullshit with a body count.
