Jim Henson didn’t direct many films. It was a shame that he was more a puppeteer than a director, because Labyrinth is an absolute masterpiece. If Jim Henson had lived longer, he might have directed many more great more movies like Labyrinth.

I watched this movie as a kid, and hated it. Mainly because it sucks.

I always like to think the other people dancing were really just the other goblins disguised as masked humans. 🤷‍♀️

3:25 I wish I'd known back then, at age 14, all the things I was told I ought to be, think, look like, want, was just an illusion. A cruel illusion. I could have smashed my way out so much sooner. Beautiful song.

Fun fact: the actress who played Dr. Beverly Crusher on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Picard", Cheryl 'Gates' McFadden, choreographed this entire sequence. Prior to being cast on Star Trek, she worked for the Jim Henson Company as a choreographer and puppet movement director.

God they knew how to simulate seduction and romance in movies from this time and without sex. This scene sizzles and nothing even happens. So what has happened in movies since?!

Saw this movie for the first time like 3 weeks ago and honestly I never saw the relationship between Sarah and Jareth as romantic? I could see some nuances that would suggest such, like this scene, but even after seeing it again it truly sets the same tone as the movie has had thus far. Jareth simply playing around with Sarah making sure she doesn't get to the end, and only cements all the time lost after she forgets about everything once she bit the peach.

That is just amazing! And the part where Bowie just very lightly mouths the words of the chorus! It becomes a musical for just the briefest moment!

My look on this scene is that this is Jareth giving Sarah what she wanted but she’s confused about what’s even happening. She daydreamed this scenario but it’s more a more adult and mature situation than she thought about. Hence the adults lounging around, laughing and staring at her. You can notice that Jareth is perfectly fine with dancing with other partners but Sarah seems unsure and curious about the atmosphere around her. Jim Henson even said that this scene is Sarah’s first adult-like situation. So her locking eyes with Jareth, wandering around the ball and wearing a beautiful dress makes her intrigued, but also very confused since it’s still a very adult-like situation, being a young girl who’s never experienced the feelings she’s feeling before.
