This movie won the academy award for Best Picture. The Godfather 2 also won the academy award for Best Picture - the first sequel to ever win that honor.

The reason Michae marries the Italian girl is that Michael is now transitioning into the family business. He sees the relationship that his own father and mother has - both of whom are from the old country. Being a traditional Italian wife, Michael's mother would NEVER question Vito about the details of his business dealings or get upset with him about any actions he might take in regard to business. Compare this with Kate who is American and outspoken. Michael sees the value in having a wife from the old country who would be like his mother.

This episode was based on a short story by Fredric Brown, called "Arena." The story was actually stolen, but the producers realized it was lifted from Brown's short story. They quickly had to pay him and give him credit or the producers could have been sued.

For your information: yes, in most circumstances boobs will trump fear of dying. In fact, boobs are one of the main causes of grown men saying something stupid like 'watch how a man does' shortly before he fails at doing that something and then gets rushed to the emergency room.

I lOVED this episode! How often do we see Dr. McCoy in love! And what a lovely, beautiful woman Natira was! And her deep commitment to her people was her most admirable quality. She was played by British actress Kate Woodville, who left us in 2013. I think what happened was the Yonadan computer malfunctioned. That was the Bottom Line. Spock deactivated The Oracle when he neutralized the heating element near the end. Loved how Spock found the cure for McCoy's terminal condition. The Fabrini had the cure all along! Xenopolycythemia is not an actual medical term, but polycythemia is. That's when your body makes too many red blood cells. And there are ways to treat it. With Xenopolycythemia, we can assume that the polycythemia is of an unknown origin, hence the word root "xeno". I'm well versed in medical terminology, have been for a very long time now. This was one of my favorite episodes. Natira was a VERY high quality woman. McCoy was very fortunate indeed. You may have recognized the old man who touched the sky. He was one of the "survivors" of the USS Columbia that crashed on Talos IV in The Cage.

Yes, a fairly forgettable episode, lol. But you're right, Van Gelder steals the show. I think Morgan Woodward guest starred in nearly every season of Gunsmoke. Two appearances on Star Trek. He was a fantastic character actor.

8:00 For a SCIENCE VESSEL ... it should have been easy to notice that "Ceti Alpha V DOESNT EXIST ANYMORE" ... and "there is a PLANET-WORTH OF ASTEROID DEBRIS HERE". Also: planets DO NOT "explode" ... they might collapse but never explode, because an explosion requires "explosive fuel".

Battlestar Galactica 2003 is far superior to the original 70s version. And the film “Contact” should definitely go on your to do list. It’s fantastic

I have to point out that Spok's "the language here is English" comment actually makes no sense. Apart from the fact that the language would be Latin or a derivative thereof, if Rome never fell English would actually not exist.

As a child in the 1970s, Miri was one of my favorite episodes. I felt it had a good story, and although some of those kids were the type that I'd hate to be around too, I could understand the drama of it all. Further, gender roles have evolved a lot over the past 60 years, and I'm sure will continue to evolve, though probably not on a straight line. There is always progress and regression. In time, I believe there will be gender equality in our society.

Watching this again, it made me think of Alfred Hitchcock's "Lifeboat". Its another character-driven story about a group of people against the sea, and in some cases each other. I think you'd enjoy it as well.

Well... this movie really gets you thinking - about the justice system if nothing else. Too bad there was no significant investigation before John went to trial... but at that time, things worked differently.

Please consider reviewing Star Trek Continues after you complete TOS. They did an awesome tribute and brought the original series to the conclusion it deserved. It is essentially a 4th season made by people who love and understood the series and characters.

The basic plot of this episode is an old sci-fi trope. If you ever want to experience some really good sci-fi for the ears, check out an old radio show from the 1950s called X-Minus-One. It's an anthology series and each episode is about 25 minutes long. The complete series along with several other similar shows are available on KZbin.
