Hello! Not at all, no. The CSR is a massive development and moving on of the platform. They are, however, more or less the same dimensions (the CSR has a slightly wider track)

Happy new year to you too Patrick. They’re basically the same, it’s just the material - ie one is smoother vinyl, the other a lightly textured mohair. The choice is therefore personal. Some people prefer the look and feel of one material over the other - only you can decide 😊

Very cool video. So somehow I have twin CSR 420Rs and they are relentlessly incredible. Both with Sadevs, both incredible to drive. More power and oomph than I will ever need.

Quoting BHP per tonne figures without a driver, is a bit misleading, especially with light cars. add 80 to 100 kg for a driver, and your BHP/TON plummets. The heavier the car, the less difference it makes.

One of those 40th Anniversary Ruby Red K series cars was the first Caterham I ever went in (age 12), and if left a marked impression on me thats followed me for life. Owned lots of sports cars, driven a few 7s but not owned one - I will, one day!

I would love to see you pit an old BMW e30 M50 turbo with a manual 5 speed and LSD against whatever you've got. It should put out at least 400bhp at the wheels to give a fair representation of the sleeper you see at the traffic lights.

The method of jacking the front and rear is only applicable to the S3/SV DeDion chassis. The CSR is not jacked this way as it does not have a DeDion or the cross-section at the front.You have my CSR200 for sale the time of writing (CSR200 FJ55VUN) which I owned from 2009-2021.

Comparing similar power:weight cars that have the 5-speed g'box versus the 6-speed would be interesting. (On same wheels + tyres)

Gearboxes is an interesting point! On the third of the 3-Cat runs you no doubt noticed the 5 speed catching up because the 310 needed to do an extra shift. Made for a really close run. Probably would’ve been even better if Mark knew how to get a car off the line 😂 Bit unfair pitting him against two racers used to quick starts. He should’ve had the 310 🤣

Its great to see real cars being tested and how driver input effects performance so much. If you had swapped cars I do feel the results would have changed? There is another very popular youtube channel that puts mainly super cars up against each other. 99% of the time they are all automatic so almost anyone can set the same "drag race" times. You could swap the drivers from car to car and the car will set the same time with almost zero driver skill ( or not that is clearly apparent when they are faced with a manual gear box ) in the outcome. A decent spec Caterham/Lotus 7 is about as quick as anything on offer from even the top Super car manufactures if you were to throw in a a few chicanes and a 180 at the end back to the start line. One of my toys is a 1971 Lotus 7 with an F2 Cosworth BDG 4 speed Escort G /box and a Morris rear axle. So pretty basic even so on the twisty bits its as fast as most 500+hp super cars....and more fun for sure. Great video keep them coming but a few Hay bails and Orange cones will add a bit more interest if you are to test Caterhams against other car makers.

Yep, very good point on swapping cars Darren. Jim and Callum are both veteran racers, whereas cameraman Mark is not. So he was at quite a disadvantage with the getting off the line skills (or rather, lack of 😂). Plus he was trying to direct, and make sure mics were working and *10* cameras 🤣 It’s no wonder the doughnut forget to remove his reading glasses on the first run, only realising halfway down the runway that he couldn’t see … 😂

Its tubing, which allows for the cyclewing repeater wires to be run through them.

it drives like no other car but you have to drive it like no other car also. My first time on track i realised that, if you want to go fast you have to turn, let it slide in, slightly correct the trajectory and the car just goes, if you do it nicely it rotates in its own axis and points where you want to, if not it just oversteers and you are out.

Would love to make a visit to you guys. Planning on buying a 7 in roughly a year and a half. What can I expect to get (if anything!) for a budget of roughly 13k I'm looking at a k series I imagine but struggling to get my head around the range!

Have owned a fair few Caterhams (6 at last count) and totally agree with what Ben is saying,it really is horses for courses. Bought my Csr (260) after owning an R500 and it felt so refined etc. After a while it almost felt too refined. I now have a 620 r different animal altogether. Whatever floats your boat so to speak they are all great cars ,altnough some are a tad underpowered .
