how far away was the source of the sound at the ship?
@devenirelectronicien512110 ай бұрын
Yes this sounds very much like seismic source shooting, but for the people commenting, this is similar to lightning in the air, yes this is loud, but i have never seen any fish dead floatting at the surface after a shot, there are also, people onboard who's task is to check for visible wild life activity nearby ( dolphins, turtles, whales,etc...). By day, this remains to be done visually, by night they have sensors at sea to record for "clicks" from dolphins and whales, if detected, shooting is aborted til they get far enough from the source, these people are known as "mammal watchers", seismic companies are well aware of noise disturbances, and spend thousands of $$$ trying to minimize the environmental impact. Before a survey goes, survey locations have already been assessed for potential wild life activities, fishing activities, etc..., and only the countries deliver permits to perform seismic surveys if they choose to, with tons of rules to follow.

Sonar the military uses is typically infrasonic.. way too high for any person to hear..not sure why they would be using this frequency because it would easily give away a location if they were training or trying to remain hidden (training or exercise) this is very odd

The bangs are the large air guns that replaced dynamite. This creates the echo and the sensors pick up the return generating an image. Most surveys had an environmental inspector with them to check for whales, dolphins etc. It costs millions per day so unlikely they’ll stop tbh. Did you see that whale? No sir.

i don't know why they had to speed up the bloop when theres evidently plenty of underwater noises that are way scarier in realtime
@HydroSnips Жыл бұрын
Like how you’d imagine a lightning bolt might sound, very clear. No headphones required. Very low interval & low frequency - must be seismic imaging I guess, oil & gas. There’ll be a ship with a big streamer somewhere that’s causing it. Blurb says this is southern Cyprus and since the mid-00’s they’ve been talking about exploring gas fields around there & eastern Med, already carving it into blocs, guess this is hearing some of exploratory work.

Actually this is nothing compared to what they used to do. Think of 50 lbs of dynamite overboard - it's what they did mid-70s in the North Sea. I know because I worked on that data.
