what a cliche, an Asian girl lecturing everybody else on how to achieve academic superiority. Do you need LeBron James lecturing every aspiring player how to be LeBron James? No D******S, because SOME people are naturally GIFTED at certain things. So, S*** the F*** Up, everybody can't be like you.

Essays for applications should be abolished. Judging on such a subjective matter simply is a mask hiding illegal discrimination.

Don't waste any more time grieving. With the advent of the Internet, elite and overpriced schools such as Stanford are most likely on their way out. You are too smart to work for anyone. Become an apprentice if necessary, learn whatever you need to learn inexpensively from the Internet, start your own business ASAP, and never look back.
@donjuanpond1Ай бұрын
I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. Nobody promised that having good grades means you get everything for free. There are probably 10,000 kids at the same academic level, applying for 2,000 seats. People have this grand delusion that being smart means you can get into a top school. You really do need to be of outstanding character, incredible talent, filling a particular unique niche, or just plain lucky to get in.

An obvious negative: Joy speaks far too fast, with little emotional variation. She speaks at her audience, not to her audience. A 'star' student must 'shine', not just emit words.

If you are a white girl, you are already in Stanford. You have done nothing wrong; it is just your ethnicity. I won't waste my money on Stanford. Don't fall into over-price scamming University. I recommend you study in China since you are already Chinese ethnic. China is the world's largest factory and the largest marketplace on earth. If you want to be rich, go to China.

Um, my son got accepted by Harvard's and Stanford's b schools. He possesses this fluid intelligence, though he isn't brilliant. But he's honest, thoughtful, and he listens to you. He was a popular student and a good athlete. That is to say, he was a scratch golfer, a good surfer and downhill skier. He's also a millionaire and an attentive parent who walks his kids to public school.

The problem is that you didn’t identify as African American, Native American, or Hispanic on your application. The other issue is that your parents haven’t donated a large building or obscene amounts of money to the alumni association.

because you're not a minority. the real definition of minority is not very bright people. that's why asians and whites are usually denied unless you have very good connections

The real reason she was rejected: the "crime" of being Asian. There's no such thing as "positive discrimination". That's just a deceitful euphemism. All discrimination is invidious discrimination.

it's because your seat went to someone that stanford has decided fit their profile, as delineated by woke and DEI. Just look at the recent DEI controversy at stanford and it's obvious that they have an agenda. even the bathrooms have changed to reflect the narrative.

Since the top schools are oversubscribed, admissions become quite unpredictable. Therefore, apply to as many as you can. The main benefit of a top school is the connections you will make there. Stanford is especially good for those who will go on to work in Silicon Valley or the like. However, it's a big world, and there are many ways to your path. Stanford only boosts your initial credibility. After that, it's all you, and believe me, you'll be perfectly fine.

I am retired after being on the meteorology faculty at Florida State University (FSU) for 41 years, where I also advised prospective and enrolled students. My undergraduate degree was in physics and math from the University of Northern Iowa. UNI is not an elite school, but I had many excellent professors and many opportunities. I’m a ham radio operator, and, as an undergraduate, I built a weather satellite receiving station and had two summer jobs in radio astronomy, one at Iowa State University and one at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Between undergrad and grad school, I had a summer job in satellite stabilization and control at Goddard Space Flight Center. I entered grad school in planetary science at Caltech, but I realized within a few months that I wanted to study meteorology. I completed a coursework non-thesis MS in planetary science at Caltech and transferred to the U of Wisconsin-Madison, where I earned a PhD in meteorology. I have been asked if I wish I had avoided all the detours and had gone straight through in meteorology. My answer is no. I treasure the related education and experiences I gained along the way. Life is the journey, not a destination. After decades of working with students, I am convinced that it is far more important what you do than where you go to school. Not being at an elite school does not bar success, and attending an elite school does not guarantee that you will blossom. From what I saw of undergraduate life at Caltech during my time there as a master's student, I think that my undergrad years at the U of Northern Iowa were better for me. Stephen Spielberg’s Wikipedia article says this: "… aspiring only to be a filmmaker[, h]e applied to the University of Southern California's film school but was turned down because of his mediocre grades. He then applied and enrolled at California State University, Long Beach … he dropped out of college to begin directing television productions … Spielberg returned to Long Beach in 2002, where he presented Schindler's List to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Film and Electronic Media." Consider also Vivien Thomas, Jane Goodall, Oprah Winfrey, and others like microcomputer pioneers Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, and Steve Jobs. Don’t be shy about knocking on doors. Even if people say no to you, you are no worse off, and you have gained courage and experience. They may even say yes. Some years ago, one of our students contacted the Air Force Hurricane Hunters in December and asked about a summer internship. She explained that she was an Air Force ROTC undergraduate junior studying meteorology at FSU, and she presented her strong transcript and resume. They told her that they didn’t have internships. She replied, "Great! I can be your first intern!" They created an internship program, and she was their first intern.
