Great stuff. Tam Weir was a wonderful presenter, knowledgable and enthusiastic. In more recent times Cameron McNeish presented some very good shows in a similar vein. Thanks for the memories!

It's lovely to see this footage, thank you. Alexander Selkirk is my ancestor. And it's nice to see Ivy Jardine speaking too. She was a friend of my Nan, Margaret. I am so glad that you showed the headstone in the kirkyard. Looking forward to part 2 😊

I can remember Sanny and Auld Wull (not shown on this version) who lived next door to us and Mr Downs Rose who lived in Wanlock house two doors down in the summer. Brings back many happy memories

Full of English settlers and Air bnb these days. Just like every other coastal town and highland village , truly sickening.

I had been living in Edinburgh for a year back then! Lived in Willowbrae on the Eastern side of Arthur's seat. I'd be 10 when this was filmed!

Filmed at a time when Edinburgh still had character, intrigue and charm. The council has bowed to developers and made what was once a great city, a characterless, soulless public bog. I remember the scaffolding at Samson's ribs. It's how I remember it as a wee laddie when I came to live in Edinburgh.

Yeah - there’s something very ‘organic’ about the pitch they’re at. It just sounds just right. (The Little Spree - see other post above for those who have missed it🙂).

@@euanwilson5750 Afraid not, young Duncan died just last year, in September 2019, at the early age of 65. He was the last. If you search Donald MacLennan, Ghillie Glen Affric, Obituary, you can (if you feel able), read some of the desperately sad story of Donald(and his comrades), during WWii. He lived to a grand age, 93 years(his year of birth given as 1916), dying in 2009. Finlay MacRae died not so long ago, a few years now. I just very recently was able to discover that the piobaireachd he plays in programme is The Little Spree, with the answer coming from Roddy MacLeod in actual fact. Thank goodness we have Tom’s archive of the remarkable people of that generation.
@euanwilson57504 жыл бұрын
@@macs7641 Thanks for that Iain, you're absolutely right, Tom's programmes are invaluable. I doubt we'll ever see the likes of that generation again.

Finlay MacCrae MBE. Piper and curator of Highland and Island culture. His piping here inspired me to take it up, and he and Tom inspired me into the hills and glens on snowy days! Can anyone name the Piobaireachd tho’🤔🤷🏻♂️
