My polygon walls weren't touching. In the two pattern distance fields I had to put PolygonWidth - Thickness - Thickness

Were you maybe expanding the shape in one direction only and not symmetrically? Then this could be..
@00WhiteBlade6 күн бұрын
@@iambuschi It's fine I was just adding .1mm until they aligned. EDIT: I figured it out. I was setting an inscribed polygon, thus setting the center to **corner** radius. Somehow I missed when you used the Sketch Dimension tool to "fix" the inscribed polygon to set the center to **midpoint of an edge** radius. The circumscribed polygon automatically does this.

Does this project need 12v for the motor and 5v for the esp, or just 5v for both? Oh, is power coming from the motor driver to the esp?
@iambuschi13 күн бұрын
Power is usually the most annoying part. I wanted to drive everything from one source initially.. The driver was unhappy with 5V although that should be enough for the TMC2208.. Then I altered to 12v and wanted to derive the 3.3 from that too.. Using a linear voltage reg is was too much power dissipation as the ESP draw considerable current.. However, it is all possible with the correct step down supply chips.. In the end I supplied 12v to the driver and kept USB connected to the ESP board I believe..

Even simpler if you plan on 3d printing. Make a solid box. Remove top and bottom layers and just set a hexagonal infill.

That is always an option, but not a very precise and controllable process.. Nothing that I am after when I want to design something with hexagons.. I wanted the ability to steer how wide the openings and thick the walls of the hexagons were..

Thanks for the amazing technique Buschi ! I tried the following: I created 2 parameters, one for the thickness and one for the width of one side of the hexagon. In sketch I created a hexagon and an offset hexagon distanced by (thickness parameter) and applied the side parameter. I added two axes as in Buschi’s method. I extruded the outer hexagon. then did the rectangular pattern. for the spacing I use sqrt(3) * side + thickness. it sounds complicated but all the design is controlled by the 2 parameters.

@Daedalin-b3r haven't come across a solution for that yet.. But maybe with one of the effect.. You can basically customize the heck out of all module effects.. I assume there is something like a gradual gradient color change.. Or do you want to dynamically transition between segment? Altering the colors until they match? Sounds pretty unique..

Another thing. I don't know if I'm going to explain it properly. I've realized that the hexagons splitted between two frames don't match with the hexagon in the frame next. I'm thinking that if you set the diameter of the hexagon as a division of the size of the frame, it would fit perfectly, wouldn't it?
@iambuschi6 ай бұрын
Yes, it must be a division without remainder... I didn't pay attention to that detail, but worked out okish

Hey! How did you remove all the excess hexagons at the end? It was very fast. Did you create an ad-hoc sketch to extrude and cut off the extra hexagons?

Yes. But you can also use the outer shape of the box and extrude it 'over' the shapes you want to keep and use boolean mode of intersect to actively select what you want to keep..
