Top We were in our alphas marching somewhere. I didn't know why i can't remember. My dad was coming to graduation. It was a surprise.. As we were marching I turned my head to the right and looked at my dad sitting on the picnic table. The DI stopped the platoon on a dime. I was getting thrashed for turning my head during drill. He put me down and smoked me for 15 minutes in my alphas. My dad is laughing hysterically at this event happening in front of him. When the DI stopped he was yelling about when I looked over to my right. I said the recruits father was on the picnic table. My dad came over and shook his hand and they're both laughing really hard. The drill instructor explain to my dad what was happening why. The whole thing was funny. But I was trying not to laugh. But anyway the next day was base Liberty I spent the day with my dad. He had a story to tell when we got home. I had no idea he was coming to graduation none. All we had was mail. I never was allowed to use the phone to call home even when I got there. We had to write letters only. But it was a story to tell during family gatherings my dad would tell the family what happened. Everybody laughed. I didn't think she would drop me 2 days before graduation either. Don't kid yourself. Until you are dismissed off that parade deck boot camp is not over.

Graduation day what's one of the proudest days of my life I will never forget that feeling and that memory. It was incredible so when they dismiss you in the first time you called The Marine give me the chills man!!! It was all worth it. If you young people are reading this and you're the kind of person who wants a little bit of a challenge and to be A cut above the rest look into joining the US Marine corps you will never be sorry for it. It stays with you your whole life.

I love the fact that we were so into our tradition and history. The most interesting classes in boot camp for the Marine corps history classes for me.

18/25 I expected more out of myself. I have a two week primative camping trip coming in January. That'll be a perfect time to brush up and refresh. RAH!

I’m a 74 year old Vietnam grunt. I was drafted of Course! Basic Fort, Jackson, South Carolina, infantry fort, Benning, Georgia, airborne fort, Benning, Georgia, Ranger, Fort Benning, Georgia, Stone, Mountain, Georgia Eglin Air Force Base, swamp Florida. I deployed from Fort Lewis Washington I was assigned to the 101st airborne division 327th Infantry Brigade. Camp Eagle Vietnam. I made E-5 after being in the army only one year, five months and 21 days. The reason for this was attrition, and the fact that I was always out front, and never hesitated to be the RTO, even though the RTO was often the first guy that got taken out, therefore, cutting off all communication with our support in the rear! So we would bring three PRC 25 radios and hide two of them. If the RT go out front behind, the old man got taken out, somebody else down the line, would spring into action and put his antenna on his radio and call in for help. When you were drafted, you only were required to do two years active and four years ready reserve. After my tour was up I elected to get out of the army. I was offered 30 extra days leave a promotion to E6. I was so lucky I have so many close calls I lost eight of my friends. I figured I had used up all of my luck. I went home and got to college on the G.I. Bill.

I was the youngest Marine two years in a row. First year I was thrown into the cake at the end of the ceremony ( first one). I get a cake made every year.

I was in the Marines from 1989-93, gulf war and Somalia, and the only birthday ball I attended was in Petoskey Michigan when I was on leave from boot camp and I was fortunate to be the youngest marine at 18 and the oldest marine was 98 years old and he actually fought at the BATTLE of BELLEAU WOOD, so I cut the Marine corps birthday cake with him and I'll never forget it and at times when I was feeling down and like shit I would think of that marine because the pure hell that marine charged through in that battle! I couldn't even imagine! His spirit kept my ass going not kidding! SEMPER FI!

God bless our beloved Marine corps!! Every young man needs a challenge a defining moment from boy to manhood. The US Marine corps can provide that transformation and it makes you a better person a better American and the Marine corps teaches moral and ethical behavior. And any young man or young woman would succeed in life better if they take the challenge and join!! It was the proudest day of my life other than when my kids were born.

As a fresh out of boot pfc, I was leading PFT and calling cadence. My platoon Sgt. told me he was impressed with my cadence calling. Ooh Rah SgtMajor

It was fun getting Sgt and Cpl's on work details. Funny thing is a broom works fine for E-1 and E-5 same thing.
