I am contemplating one of these. Question: I have a Marshall DSL40CR that I just love. It has a Celestion V-Type speaker (16Ω, 70w). I'm wondering if putting one of those in a single 12" cab (probably the VHT one that goes with their D-style amp). Good choice?

Could you do regular small gigs with this amp? Bars and such.

Easily. In bars, especially, you're amp will likely be miced, and you won't even be able to run that wide open, in spite of the conservative 20 watt rating. I sometimes use a deluxe reverb that, at 22 watts, doesn't have the mid punch the OTS20 does, and the drummer often tells me to turn it down a little. Only if you're running unmiced will you struggle, and that would be you playing an outdoor gig with a loud drummer and possibly another guitar player.

I've have an OTS20 on order. There is an inherent sweetness in his amplifiers. Some of the best guitar tones I have ever heard!

spm72 awesome... that’s the best endorsement if I’ve ever seen it! 8 years later and still love it. I’m looking for a nice amp to couple with my uber clean Carr Viceroy and I love Nik’s work on the Centura and Horsebreaker... I’ll need to check that out!

When you’re getting to super high quality gear like this, saying which is better is pretty much meaningless. The variance of a player’s application, their amp, guitar, style, and band dynamic far outweighs the variation between the different units. I’ve heard the Ox sound virtually perfect and nearly identical to the speaker it’s emulating, and I’ve heard it sound quite a bit different. Same with the Torpedo. I’d be happy with either. But I’m going to probably opt for the Ox for its attenuator option and killer room emulation. You can’t go wrong with either though.

You can vote torpedo because of 2 things: 1st - the amount of purchasable cabs in Wall of Sounds' library and their constant addition, 2nd - price and additional options for reamping.
