Thanks for the kind words. It has been quite a journey over the past year and an emotional one to boot. Standing next to the Texas monument in the cornfield at Sharpsburg and Gettysburg, climbing up the hill out of Boatswains Creek at Gaines Mill or at Viniard field at Chickamuaga and thinking how many brave Texans lost their lives fighting valiantly gives me a sense of awe at the courage that they displayed. I will say that it was very tough recording the voiceover for the final scene at Appomattox. We are working on one last episode for the HTBA channel covering their road home and the formation of the Association.

A great what if: If Longstreet tapped the gas to Chancellorsville in time. If Longstreet made it to the field, Hooker would have nowhere to go because his back was to the river. If Hooker was decisively smashed, then whatever Grant does in Mississippi is redundant because there will be troops to spare to make mincemeat of him coming down the railroad.
@manilajohn0182
@manilajohn0182 Ай бұрын
Longstreet was entirely too far away to make it to Chancellorsville in time. Jackson's flank attack was initially successful only because it was a surprise and caught Union troops in disarray. Once Union resistance stabilized, Jackson's attack ground to a halt. Decisively smashing a major Civil War army is often discussed, but it was well beyond the ability of any other Civil War army to accomplish. A victory on that scale would have required large numbers of cavalry to pursue routed fugitives and prevent their reorganization into organized combat units- and neither side ever had the numbers required on the field.

I hope that there is a mention of Colonel Robert M Powell and he was the commander of the 5th Texas infantry and he took command after the battle of Antietam and i hope there’s a mention of him because out of the regimental commanders in hoods Texas brigade he is my favorite and the reason is because during the battle of Gettysburg he was wounded and he was taken to my 4th great grandfathers farm which was the Jacob Weikert farm and he was taken there because it was a field hospital however he’s my favorite because on the third day of the battle of Gettysburg he witnessed my 4th great grandfather talking to his daughter in law my 3rd great grandmother however what’s special about them talking is that they were speaking German while talking and first my 3rd great grandmother spoke saying” die mit cold”which is the German translation of the ones with cold and then my 4th great grandfather replied back saying” Mine Cot Katrine! Nein Nein” which is the German translation of My God Katrine aka Catherine Never Never.

There was no second battle, if you're talking about what happened on April 20,1836. That was only a skirmish. The following day which will forever be known as San Jacinto Day was resounding victory which secured Texas lndependence. What you got to say now?

Captain Tasitus-Thomas C. Clay and his brother Atreus Clay, were land surveyors and builders of my 140-year-old Victorian home in Washington County that served in Hood's Brigade and Terry's Rangers! The house is a B&B House Of Atreus in Independence, Texas. The first Baylor female college is located near my home, and many other historical buildings are also within a stone's throw away from my home in Independence, Texas. The Clay families are still here and are wonderful neighbors. Mrs. Ginger Grutzus Calton from Texas.

Stay tuned for future episodes. We are following Taz Clay, Val Giles and George Branard through the entire war. I envy you your historic home. Thanks for watching.

Greetings fellow Texan, ma'am l've been to lndependence a few times in my life. Have seen where Mrs. Sam Houston is buried there. And been to where the columns still stand on ground of the original Baylor University was conceived. Also have been to Washington-on-the-Brazos and museum. Do you know where Stoneham is on TX.HWY 105? I ran across a Stoneham brother there in the cemetery, and his brother is in the Cartwright cemetery east of Montgomery. Both were members of the 8th.Texas Cavalry AKA Terry's Texas Rangers. I was a member of the SCV, but l let my membership lapse. It's cool that you own a Victorian home, does it carry a State medallion?

@@carywest9256 No, Sir/Ma'am, I only have the brass medallion that says House Of Atreus Est. 1883. I haven't been to the Cartwright Cemetery; however, I have burial plots in the Historic Independence Cemetery, where many heroes are buried. You sound like a fascinating person. I hope you will return and visit Independence and stop by the House Of Atreus with your family. Ginger native of Texas.

Thanks for watching. Companies A-D of the 2nd Texas Infantry were recruited from Harris County. Not part of the Texas Brigade, the 2nd Texas fought at Shiloh and defended the 2nd Texas Lunette at the Siege of Vicksburg. They were so decimated from the fighting at Vicksburg that they were furloughed back to Texas and stationed at Galveston.
